SMP Cpu's?

I was reading this thread: http://xtremepccentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4672 and my question is that the AMD's don't come ready to use in a dualie? ya need Special cpu's? I thought all cpu's could be used SMP right out of the box. my two P-III 850E's are not even matched units and they work fine together.

The MPs come from AMD certified to run in SMP mode. The XPs are normally able to run SMP when the bridges are modified. I've heard varying numbers on the percentage of successful conversions though.
