I am new to networking and I need a little help. I don't even really know where to start, heh. Right now I just have two computers hooked togeather, and later I want to have multiple computers hooked up to one server. I was thinking of getting a Network Hub, but I am not sure if this is what I want. I also need help about running things like a radio broadcast rom within the network. I have tried this here and it loads it to a local IP and nobody can connect on the internet. Any help there would be appreciated as well.

I would suggest you get a switch instead of a hub. I had a cheap hub witch kept dropping my internet connection while doing transfers between PC's. A better hub may not have.

What is the difference between an Ethernet hub and switch? (http://www.duxcw.com/faq/network/hubsw.htm)

WHat type of internet connection do you have? DO you have a router?

First off what kind of internet connection do you have? If you have broad band then I would go with a router.

A router is a different beast altogether. A switch is what is needed.

I have 56k right now, but hopefully they will have DSL here in the summer (so they say). What is a router for? I don't have one

(PS: I do not reccommend this router.)

Yup, they combined a router with a switch. SMC, LinkSys, Netgear and some other companies did this for the home market. It's a great idea but it's confusing people as to what a router or switch are. I use one at the house myself. I can recommend both LinkSys and SMC. I am using the SMC 8 port model currently.
