replaced all 6 cap on my mobo, but when i power on, the psu fan will jerk a bit, then stopped. when i hit the power switch for the second time, there was no reaction, only if when i reset the bios, upon hitting the power switch, the fan will jerk and come to a standstill.
is there anyone who knows what went wrong? could it be the voltage regulators at fault?

Hmm, are you sure that your capacitors were installed correctly, + and - on the right sides?

Also make sure you got all the required Caps replaced (only six seems pretty low countwise) Also make sure you dont have any "cold" soldered joints or have multiple traces crossed connected

Thanks for you replies..
all the capacitors are in the correct polarity. And btw what do you mean bymultiple traces crossed connected?
I tried to use an ohm meter to test whether current flows thru the cap, but it always register a value which is zero for every cap in the mobo. Is there something wrong with it?

You would most likely read zero on a cap with an ohm meter due to the way caps work.
what I mean by crossed connected means some of the traces that the caps connect to have other traces very close and if you got a touch sloppy in your soldering you might have a "bridge or jumper" due to solder connecting traces that are not ment to be connected.
Also just a thought...have you checked your "coils" on the mobo...Were they overheated. What caused you to believe your caps where bad? Burned?, bulged? exploded ect?
You might check with "Gary Headlee" who is a fellow "MidValian" like me who specializes in doing these kind of repairs. There is a thread here at XPC with a link to Gary's personal website. Just do a search for motherboard capacitors and such and you will find it.

i have checked the coils on my mobo. they were perfectly fine. the cap are bulge, some with brown sunstance oozing out from it.
i am been thinking abt this. since motherboards are multilayered pcb, isit alright to solder the cap on the bottom layer? Or do you need to let the solder flow into the internal layers and allow conduction with the cap with the internal layers?

I have taken some photos of my soldered motherboard. Please comment.
thanks

Gary makes mention of "thru the hole" soldering on his website so I would venture a quess that this is most likely your problem since you stated you did the bottom layer. Thru the hole soldering is tricky from my understanding.

yep. I read abt it too, but does one need any extra tools to do thru hole soldering? Anyone has any experiences to share with?
thanks

Sorry but I had Gary do the work for me as I'm no soldering genius ;)

does anyone know which part of the motherboard trigger the psu to supply power into the motherboard? I suspected that particular circuit to be faulty. thanks

does anyone know?

I wouldnt venture a guess without looking at a schematic of your motherboard. Do you have one of your motherboard?
