2 Intel 2.4g Xeon cpu's
1 gig of ram
Western Dig hd 7200rpm with 8meg

Saved up for 6 months!

Man! That is sweet! I wish I had the cash to buy the mainboard. That will definetly be my next build, a dual Xeon. Be sure to post some pics and welcome to XPC! :)

That is an awesome setup :)
And welcome to xtremepccentral :D

btw if you want to do more with that system then you should try some distributed computed there is a forum dedicated to this on this site.

Just got in from work. I'm glad people took the time to read my post and share in my interest. Ok only two pics as I was building it. I'll have to get one complete.

Let me know what you all think.

Keith,

What is distributed computed all about? I read some posts on the topic, but still don't get it.

Sounds good, but are you sure you don't want to give it to me? :D

Welcome to XPC :)

Brian there are plenty of reasons to do distributed computing in the link NDC gave you. This was the first one I ever did and the main reason was to be part of the team here and to crunch more than as many people as I could.

But sadly I havent done that well as of yet :D

Keith

It does sound like fun, I am working on the server setting things up and all, when I finish, I will join the team and see what my dream pc can really do!

Thanks Mntsnow

Does the number crunching interfere with the server running services? like mail and iis?

Yeah it would be great to have ya Brian :)

No it wouldnt interfer with that as it only takes your idle processor cycles.

Nope.... I confirm what Keith has stated. I have RC5 running on The webserver server and the Database server that runs this site and it has never given me any problems. with how little the RC5 client interferes with systems is one of the reasons I stuck with RC5 for so long.... The busier the server the less block you will pump out. Heck you can even open your performace monitor and watch how the cpu load changes constantly for the dnet process.

Ok I just downloaded the software. I gave it my e-mail address. If I read things right, untill it dumps packets, I dont have a user name and password, or team right! I want to see what dual xeons can do here. And give back to this awsome site for all the help you all have given me.

You are correct Diveram. Just follow the tutorial on how to setup your Dnet client in the Distributed computing forum that is the first thread in that forum will have a link to the software and how to config the client.
