Because of the new review i had to switch to the default theme, and when i saw the logo i saw that the xpc hadn't had the 3D effect in it which the rest of the logo has, so i decided to make a new part for that, i think it's much better then the 1 that get's used now, ofcourse it's upto Mntsnow to use it or not.

The image is a png file, and the quality is much better then i would get if i had saved it in JPG, it's even abit smaller then the that get's used now.

Thanks Gohan,

Btw I've gone ahead and switched over but had to save it as a JPG or I would have had to go thru and recode a bunch of stuff but I didnt lose much quality asfaikc

Also I have fixed the new software review so it shows correctly under the emerge theme

Well the PNG is still much better quality, if you look at the X you will notice that.

Correct but not enough to make me go thru and recode a ton of stuff :p

I can understand that, i tryed to get a good quality out of the JPG but i simply didn't got good quality out of it, so i thought that i will make it PNG and then you can do with you want.

Anyway i enjoyed doing it, i learned some new things.

This is how i did it.

First i made a screenshot of the complete logo, then i cutted out a pretty big part of silver.
Then i made a new layer, and made that 50% transparent, then i took the blue from the logo and did that over it and then merged the 2 layers. Then i simply changed the darkness and saturation, untill i got that.

Then i removed the blue from the original logo and putted this behind it, but there were still many parts which had a other blue, so i used a soften tool to make it all smooth.

I'm very pleased with how it looks. :)

That looks alot better, what you used to compress that, because i couldn't get a decent quality out of a JPG.

Hmm, they must have improved it really good then because i use PSP7 and even with the highest quality that i could get it was still bad, and then the logo would be about 18kb

You have to really tweak the settings.

Actually, you wouldn't have to recode anything. If your settings will only support JPG, simply save the file you want to use in another format such as GIF, PNG, and simply rename the extension to JPG. :)

Truely a GIF, but disguised as JPG. Done with Photoshop 7.

5.4kb

PNG-8 disguised as JPG....

PNG-8: Adaptive, Diffusion, 32 colors, Dither at 52%, 4.1kb

I can eyeball 'streaks' on the PNG. The 5.4kb one is better. What does the PNG weigh?

What do you mean "What does the PNG weigh"? Do you mean the file size? It's at 4.1kb. The reason you see the streaks on the PNG is because of the numbe of colors that were used to save. The GIF is at 64 and the PNG is at 32. Another reason is the interlacing. PNG really doesn't have much advantage over GIF. PNG benefits are: alpha channels (variable transparency), gamma correction (cross-platform control of image brightness), and two-dimensional interlacing (a method of progressive display) and PNG compresses better in most cases.
