Tried booting WinMe on 3 boards with this drive.
Get a boot disk error message.
Try with ERD and get error that drive has no FAT.
Drive as secondary can be read and write to.
Ran the 3 disk diag programs from Maxtor.
All found the drive with no errors.
Any way to recover the FAT without losing data?

you might try using Lost & Found by PowerQuest. You might also try using PartitionMagic and see if you can "fix" the Fat.

Have you tried Maxtors quick install to install and format drive before installing ME, MS ME seems to screw up with some of the Maxtor drives.

I'd scrap the ME OS completely and slip back to win98SE with all of it's fixes and updates.....
I'm certain that, unless you're hitting hardware failures - you'll have much more success and much less frustration.
Look on www.pricewatch.com and you can find very inexpensive copies of win98SE OEM disks - then go to a used book store if you really need a manual.
Otherwise - there is absolutely no reason to go to ME unless you're stuck in Alaska and fedex cannot get you any other OS.... and even then.....
