Huh?? I got one of these direct from western digital, a 100 gig ATA7200-2mb cache (http://store.westerndigital.com/product.asp?sku=1828384) and I see over at Techimo (http://www.techimo.com/forum/t61096.html) a member post this drive as a deal from circuitcity, and a couple other folks astarted whining about it only having a 2mb cache saying the standad now was 8mb cache. WTH? the only Hddd's I see at W.D. are the special edition (http://store.westerndigital.com/searchresults.asp?dept_id=38) drives. why is suddenly 2mb cahce so awful to have? mine works fine for me. matter fact all my drives are 2mb cach. I have the 100, two 40's and a 30 gig ATA100/7200/2mb cache drives in the server, no problems with them at all, tho the 30 is on a ATA/66 contraler card as my cd drive didn't like being on it.

thats just it..they are whiners. i think wd would like everyone to have the 8mb cache drive, but not everyone is willing to shell out the extra cash for them. they have teh 3 eyar warranty on them as well, where the 2mb only have 1 year.
tomshardware did a review/comaprison of the 8mb cache drive and compared it to the 2mb and sustained data transfer speeds were quite a bit better.
8mb is not yet the standard. only maxtor and wd are producing them on dpecial edition drives.....for now.
you have to stop lurking at timo...it's not worth your time. :D

I believe the difference is the warranty. 2MB is a 1 year and the 8MB is a 3 year. It's on their site somewhere. BS, isn't it!
I hear people talk about how quite these things are but I think they are nuts! I hear them over my fans. All my Maxtors have been much more quite than this WD 180GB SE drive. I wish they would advertise the real size too:(

hey that was me!!
for the money i was stating that you could get an 8mb cache for the same price. i bought a 200gb 8mb 7200 for $200 a few months back. i wasnt whining about the cache size...just that it wasnt a fabulous deal.
