Sorry I was gone snowmobiling robin. For an Add-on card for IDE raid I whole-heartly recommend the Promise cards. I've never had any problems with them and they are pretty easy to setup and get going.
Adaptec does make an IDE raid card too but it's a fair chunk of change more expensive.

http://www.promise.com/product/product_list_eng.asp?familyId=2
which one of these would you recommend (if any)?
if none of these which one?
i have a promise ultra 133 tx2 controller card.(which i like and was easy to setup:) )

The fasttrak TX2 would probably be the one you want unless you want to get fancy and be able to do more advanced raid configs than 0 or 1 ..if so then I can recommend the SuperTrak SX6000 as I have a couple of clients that use that card and they seem to be pretty happy with it.

is an add on raid card better than a mobo with raid?

Truthfully ...I have several mobo's with Promise raid controllers built in and LOVE them... so I actually prefer on-board raid for Raid 0, Raid 1 or Raid 0+1.
No Onboard IDE raid that I am aware of offers anything more advanced than those I listed above but several Add-0n IDE Raid cards do offer more advanced raid config's such as Raid 3, 5, 10 ect

can i get some recommendations on mobo with promise raid controllers?
i want to try and setup raid 0.
i just got a dvd burner and i want to transfer some vhs movies over to dvd.
would an intel setup be better than an amd setup?
if i decide to get a new mobo would an intel be better than an amd?
if intel is better can u recommend some mobo with raid?
