who are you all useing to do this. I was told of from a friend of mine. he used namessecure.com to do his.
what I'm looking for is one that ""Im"" listed as the administrative contact for the domain name then it is under MY control and not theirs. that way I won't have to pay a tranfer fee or they have anything to do with my name.
for if I'm not in controls of the name ... it will mean that I effectively sign over the name to them and that I cannot do .
Gene, I'm using www.godaddy.com . Mntsnow referred them to me.

Yep. I use Godaddy for the largest part of my own domain ownerships. I have also used www.Verio.com for a couple and is who I use for all of the domains that I host for others as DNS services are included with the verio accounts by default where with Godaddy you either have to have your own DNS servers or have access to dns servers.

thanks for the links. bottom line question here.
which one would be better for me?? I do want to presue a website so as I can help other that have suffered like my parents are now. and to also be able to update my site.
still working with rom, if I can't have access to update my site. than I'll have to look else where.
I don't have a way to host a site myself. so, I'll have to find me some space. I just need to lock in a name I have. for a unlimited number of years ect.
I'm looking at 2/3 names or just get one and have it directed to my hosting service or can I do that.
please excuse my dumbness on this. this is all new to me. but, it is my new calling. page building. I can do it while I take care of my parents..
did I state my question wrong?? can you see what I want and need.

Gene, who is your ISP nowdays? Most ISP's include some website space with your account. your ISP if they do include webspace are usually able to do your DNS services for you and then all you would need to do is buy your domain name.
If you need to go with a different solution I could probably do it for you for a nominal fee.

netzero platinum member, all they give you is connection, they even only give you as a paying member 3 mb of file size limit for e-mail.
they also offer you a droped connection if you use the service to much. I have to shut down and restart if I stay on over a hour or so. and than I sometimes get a busy singel and can't connect again. but, after all it is only 9.95 not counting tax if I pay in advance. I did a 5 month trial with them.

Gotcha....Well not offering all of the other services is one of the biggest reasons the "discount" ISP's are able to do it so cheaply.
Gene. you might look into www.1dollarhosting.com for your site at least until you get some traffic. It costs like 60 bucks for the first year and then 12 bucks a year there after (the first year includes your setup fee's) and they will host your own registered domain name for that price too. Chel used to use them when she first started out having a website and was before I started hosting all of the sites I currently do.

I use This Service (https://www.secureserver.net/firststep.asp?isc=domrenpre&se=%2B&from_app=&mscssid=&pl_id=241&prog_id=domains&target=firststep%2Easp) for my name registrations. $8.75 per year or $7.90 per year if you buy for 10 years. You have complete control over your domain as well.
If you need a cheap place to host, I can one-up MntSnow's 1 dollar hosting, with a $0 hosting :) DotEasy (http://www.doteasy.com). I have some friends that use their service and its not bad.

most normal websites won't go beyond that though (unless you have file downloads). Its good for family websites, small businesses, etc. :)
I personally use www.amhosting.com for paulandemily.com but I may switch it soon. they don't offer telnet or ssh access to the server and some other features I would like to have.

ok, this is the deal
netzero is a useless, except cheap 9.95 + tax isp
I'll need more than 20/25 mb storage if I'm going to be paying for it.
I'm useing frontpage 2000 for desing, until I understand dreamweaver again.
I need to be able to use my isp mail address. so need a pop mail account, not just a webbased so as I can save a copy of my mails
as for site hits or publishing my site for viewing. that is the reason I have keep the posting at the jax site a no-telling level. I only sent the ulr to steve redan so as to have a second proof to start with.
when I have a perment place to post my and others info. I'll publish it in my newspaper " they are my friends also in this" and every single crack of this earth I can.
also, my whole city ect. is watching this whole thing. and they ask where is your site with the picures. I just say it's coming??
for when I post or make it public. every single person with a system. or what I have heard will hit it. so, I would like to make some money to cover my cost. my only income is my wife. I stay home 24/7 to help& look out for my parents. I haven't filed a income tax since 1999.
so, I'm hopeing that I will somehow be able to recover some of my cost.
and also, to expand so as others may be able to post to this. even if they are somewhere else.
I know this is something new to me. but, I feel their is a need for it to make everyone safe in dealing with others.
I also have a lot of other sites that want to link to me.
and the biggest problem here is I've always been a hardware man since I quit software a few years back. now I have to change. and a website is something I can do from home and look after my parents.
mike, I'll call you in a few or larer on about this

sorry Mike, I just saw this. as you can see I have been pushing my limit as my time goes with this thing. and as you can also see I got the name thing ok..
I'm not to good at things sometimes. I just have to learn as I go. But, I got another question for you all. and I'm still considering your offer also mike. but, would you all look this over and give me your feed back on it. my only problem is giveing out my creditcard to someone. I like to pay by cash. the american way...
since I'm going to have to make some changes it looks like now.
I'm looking for hosting. Rom, gave this link to me
http://webaxxs.com/ I called them at there home office and they seem like great people. I explained what my page was about. they said they had no problem with it or it's content.
I can't beat their prices either as for space. I was looking at the 9.95 month special f/ 200 mb. I won't need this much but you never know. have a look at the plan and give me your outlook on this.
I do have a free 50meg.com account. but I have never used it and I don't think they will allow frontpage 2000 or a message board. and I need more than a homepage. and I'm also going to need a lot of help setting it up.
I need a place to have a life
if you all don't see for a few. mail me they are working on the power/phone lines all around my area. and everything goes dead at time.

Webaxxs seems to have competitive pricing. so if you feel comfortable with them they should work out ok for you. Good luck!

thanks mike, I'm still looking. I just want to deal in cash if I can and also be on a more of a one on one friendly basic with my hoster.
but, I do need a place where I can have a message board or a place to post my and others out looks on all of this. even if I have to post their outlooks myself.
but, my main concern is who ever I choose. I want to stay their. I'm getting tired of all my time going for this thing.
I also have some software developer friends of mine that want to pay for me posting their links from my site.
I also want a security part on my site.
but, most of all. whom ever I go with will. will have a chance for their server to be know to millions of viewers/users or mailing list " one I'm on has almost 9 hundred thousand members and the rst way up into the thousands also" from all over the world.
yes, I do mean to pay out the butt for all of this. but to me and if it makes me sleep good at night and not have to worry. than that is a cost I'll have to pay.
but also my hoster will also make money from others seeing my site ect.
