I have an old 30GB Maxtor drive here that has been giving me problems for a couple months now. Initially I lost 28 gigs of stuff:( that was backed up:)
I have had to write 1's and 0's to the thing twice now because of bad sectors. The warranty ends in May. I can no longer trust this drive but can't RMA it because I have to try to repair it by writing 1's and 0's to the thing ,which does fix it temporally, before I can get a valid code.
My questions are do you think I can call Maxtor and get an RMA or am I SOL? Is there a way to kill this thing so I can get an RMA once and for all? I keep transferring data to it and defraging it hoping it will die a permanent death but after doing this all I am getting is bad clusters.
Remember as of May I will have to throw this thing in the trash if it does die which it will do the day after the warranty runs out, I'm sure.
