Ok, here is my issue. I am currently running a wireless network using a Linksys 2.4Ghz 4 port firewall/router and WAP, a Linksys PCI wiFi card in my PC and a SMC WiFi PCMCIA card in the wife's laptop. I have been experiencing sporadic disconnections since installing everything, well today I noticed, after I was on my home cordless phone My connection was gone again, but shortly came back.
My question is this, Will a 2.4Ghz cordless phone cause interference in my 2.4Ghz WiFi system, and if so, what can I do to prevent the interference?
I realise this is a technical issue, but it does have to do with networks also. :)
Thanks!

Ok, I found out that the phone will cause disturbance and if it happens, I just press the channell key on my phone a couple of times and the connection comes back. :)
Anyways, now I am having an issue where the router will not allow either of our computers connect out. Right now I am back to my old Linksys 1-port firewall router and a 10-base hub with wires running through the apartment. :( Anyways, Where do I start to try and diagnose this? I have no idea how much more info that is needed, so please ask me for what info I will need! :)
Sincerely,

Well, I'm revisiting this again. I finally contacted Linksys, they figured it was time to RMA it. I sent the old one back, received a new and improved 4-port unit and since day one the PC and laptop will not stay connected for more than 10 minutes. After a couple of calls to Linksys, it seems they are pretty useless as each time, they tell me the same things and no matter how many times I tell them that has already been done, they end the call saying "let that happen like that for awhile."
Should I just try and do another RMA and see what happens? Or should I just give up and get a tottally different WAP?

I'm not sure the cordless phone will be an issue, although frequencies used are different in the USA!
In the same room as my wireless router, I have usually 2 cordless phones, and both base units, a couple of cellphones, a wireless baby monitor and a wireless remote control for the central heating system! Also, normally a couple of laptops recieving from the router! No connection problems!
How is the wireless configured? Nothing that is likely to timeout?

I have since found out that yes a 2.4 cordless phone will cause problems with a 2.4 wireless network. You need to either quit using the 2.4 phone or get a different cordless frequency. I ran into this setting up a wireless network here at home for the laptops and ended up getting a different cordless phone system and that solved my issues

I have found personally that it IS a channel issue. If you use different channels, it should clear it up.
It's kinda like a radio. You have all these radio "stations" competing for air time. The closer the frequncy or channel, the more "noise" you'll get. If the channels operate further apart, the better connection you'll get. I learned this from a cordless phone next to my wife's bluetooth mouse. Finally got the right channel, voila! It works great.

Actually, I knew by this time the phone was an issue, at times. I know the phone isn't an issue, because I can still connect to other wireless networks in the building, but when the phone interferes I actually get the message I lost the connection. Besides, I have had the phone completely disconnected from both the phone jack and the charger and the problem still happens.

who else has a cordless phone in this building though?

That's just it though. When my phone causes the problem, I show the no network available message, but with the new WAP, I am connecting to other networks in the building after I have been connected to mine for about 5-10 minutes. Still connected, so I can see the phone isn't the issue.
BTW-I can pick-up as many as 5 wireless networks, all since I got mine. I would think if I had issues because of phones so would others and they would've done something different by now.

2.4 cordless, microwaves and a number of other things can cause it. I have the same problems and cause them as well, I kill my neighbors when I pick up the phone.

Just an update. I RMA'd this router and the new one now has been connected for 24 hours so far with no problems, which is better than the second one ever did. I have noticed the software for the router has a different style user interface and I am wondering if this is a totally new update and was possibly my problem with the second router.

Probably just the most recent firmware update. Did you check for the latest Firmware before RMAing the old one?
Glad it is working for you!
