View Full Version : What a difference it makes on the CPU temp!
I did an early Spring cleaning on my system last night. :D I've been meaning to do this for a long time and been putting it off. I noticed all the dust build ups on the heatsinks on my system. I knew this would have some effect on the processor temps, but not his much! It dropped from 59~60C to 46~50C max with both processors at max load running Dnet. Vacuum cleaners work quite well with the brush ends! LOL :D
You used a regular vacuum cleaner? Like, a big one?
That's a big difference in temp.
I usually keep my systems pretty clean, too.. but I've been laggin' the past couple months... :o I guess it's time for spring cleaning here, too
Well, I smoke in my room which also contributes the "Sticky Dust" it creates in my room! :D
I don't know if that matters...I have non-smoking dust in mine. :D

Wow, that's a pretty significant drop!
I also just recently rediscovered what a big difference it can make if you apply your thermal paste correctly... I'd done a pretty hurried, sloppy job, and this last time when I tore into it I took the time to do it right... temps dropped at least 5 degrees Celcius. Needless to say, I was quite pleased. :)

Hey NDC. :) I noticed simular results on my box. I had always cleaned my PC with compressed air but I hadn't noticed the dust buildup in the heat sink before. I dropped my temps from 50c to 42c just by cleaning the crud out of the heatsink. I wondered why my temps had slowly crept up over a period of time :D

I'm being more careful using the vacuum now though, I think that's what helped fry my HD, of course it was a deathstar so it was destined to fail :D. I'm happy keeping my temps below 50 at idle right now, it used to be 64 back in the day when I knew nothing. Also, I noticed that switching the direction a fan blows makes a BIG difference :)
