Well, I've completely migrated to Windows XP Pro now and so far I like it more than Windows 2000 now that I got the multi-tasking problem solved. One thing I really like about XP is the option to use foreign language programs (non-uni-code programs) which enable me to use foreign language fonts as well as be able to read text in the foreign language GUI. This is something that wasn't possible on Windows 2000. Another great feature is the "System Restore" feature. Not only will it recover the OS to the last recovery point that was created by the user, it will also recover saved data! Unlike Ghost or other imaging utilities which delete data that was saved after the image was created, XP "System Recovery" will keep the new data and recover the backed up data if "System Recovery" is active on that particular drive.. As far as the built in Internet Firewall, I can't comment much on it since I don't use it. I just use the Linksys firewall. But I hear the XP firwall does a decent job...

As far as application compatibility on XP vs. Windows 2000, I haven't noticed any improvement in the applications that I use. ICQ 2001 build #3278 seems to have a problem with its "Start with system startup". ICQ seems to startup even when you uncheck the option under ICQ Preference" However, I was easily able to solve this problem by killing the application using a startup manager utility. The only reason I continue to use this version of ICQ is that I have an "Ad Remover" patch. It appears that an Ad Remover patch isn't available yet for the newest version.

Hopefully SP1 for XP will have some application compatibility patches. Another disadvantage is XP's IE6 which seems to be quite system font dependent! The more fonts you have, the longer it takes IE6 to initialize. However, once the browser window is open, it's smooth sailing from there besides the fact that some sites don't seem to display properly because they weren't coded for IE6. One workaround for this was to change the encoding to "User Defined"...

hehehe, I bet XP was in & out a few times before it made it in for good.

Me I luv my XP, infact I luv anything with XP in it. I got office & plus (the aquarium screensaver is amazing - and the fact u can go online and buy more fish I find very funny!)

I've been running XP for a month or so now, on a clean install and it seems pretty stable. I doesn't seem speed wise any different to W2k, but some of my hardware or XP features don't agree. My new yamaha 20X burner isn't recognized or is unavailable for the "send to feature". My DVD is not recognized also, but I just got new firmware for it. My icq is on at startup too, I have to use selected startup in ms config. Some of my menus are behind the items eg. in the taskbar I mouseover the clock the date is behind the taskbar so i can't read it, when I clik on the icq menu the menu slides behind the faceplate so I cand read what the selections are. Got problems with EZCD 5 platinum, even with their patch.

All in all it works good, the new features seem to tell me that MS doesn't want anyone elses software on your system they will do it all.

Myself I use windows backup. I like it and it works for me. My experience with system restore features was not that good in ME, it restored it ok, but all my appz stuff were gone. I restored from a point that i created after installing everything, but only the MS stuff was there - real bummer!

I'm gonna stick with XP till their update comes out, then I'll make a decision as to what os I'll use!

Yep! It took three new installs on my primary system and I finally got it fine-tuned...

infact I luv anything with XP in it.

You mean anything with "X" in it! :D

My icq is on at startup too, I have to use selected startup in ms config.

Actually I was getting the same problem on ICQ 2000b #3278 from second install and on... Strangely, on the first install, it didn't have that problem. I installed the latest version of ICQ 2001b #3659 and the problem seems to be gone... Go to www.icq.com and try installing the latest version...

Got problems with EZCD 5 platinum, even with their patch.

Did you install EZCD5 and he patches in the exact order they tell you to? I noticed if you don't do it in the exact steps, it won't work....
