My 423 P4 1.6 processor is up for grabs - I had replaced every part of the system I had with this processor having recently replaced the mobo for this chip - and it turns out to be the chip might have a problem - could never get the system stable -

Anyway - so I went down to the Dallas first Saturday computer swap meet in Deep Ellum and tried finding a good price on a 423 soctet P4 -

guess what - I bought a Asus socket 478 board, 2 sticks of DDR 256 Ram, and a Celery 2GB processor for less than it would have cost me to replace the 423 socket processor -

After walking around the site for 2 turns and making sure I didn't miss anything ( appx 40 or 50 vendors - appx 6 AM on a Saturday morning - everything from bona fide junk to wholesale to new retail ) I took out my wad of cash and made a deal and decided to totally part with Rambus and socket 423.... it is simply too expensive to keep it running and while it is the Betamax quality of tech, the VHS DDR and socket 478 won out..... time to bend to pressure and go with the rest of the general population.....

So I'm giving the RAM to a friend in need and parting with the P4 and the two socket 423 mobos at a resale shop..... probably for a case to build my "next" system ( why I need another system - I'll never know - I have 7 PC's here now.... why would I need 8 except to run another instance of Seti - hehehe )

Perhaps I'll pick up a DVD-Rom burner as my new summer toy to mess with - then I need a high end TV - in card so that I can port my Chainmail Armor video to DVD.

Yeah the Rambus made it hard. I have a p4 with rambus but fortunately for me it has been very stable once I formatted it and installed XP over the OEM Win2K install with all the Compaq added software that I never use(ed)

I have a P4 1.3 423...so a 1.6 would be a nice little swap if it works.

Let me know if you want to work something out.

Personally I have stayed away from Intel completely. I strictly use AMD silicon. Especially since AMD has released Symmetric MP chips. Love it my servers, and at a fraction of the cost. You simply get more bang for the buck. I can't be completely off base either, even Cray is using them now and they are definitely known for their supper computers!

nope - can't do that to you - could never keep this chip stable after many attempts - but it tests ok - just bombs or locks up after appx 6 hours or less - and it isn't a heat issue -
