i have a 200gb hard disk for my media center rig...but i read something somewhere that anything more than 133 gb is unsupported by winxp? so when i go to partition it...i want to do about 40gb for windows and my media files. the other 160 i want for TiVo like duties...so how do I go about paritioning this?
(does this all sound plausible btw?)
thanks for the help!

Have you already installed XP? If so you will have to use a program like Partition Magic to adjust the partition size with the os already in place.
If you havent installed all your "stuff" yet, I would jsut format and start over. You can format all your HHD during the install of XP. Either way it is prtetty straight forward.

no havent even gotten all the parts here yet. just doing some prelim investigating. so when i run winxp install...i just partition 40gb...leave the rest blank and then when windows is up and running, use the partition tool to format the other 160gigs?

You've got media center? Where did you get it? I thought you could only get it with new computers? The shell I use on XP isn't near as smooth as media center, I'd like to get a copy if it works with AIW radeons.

That is the easiest way to do it.. Good luck. If you have any problems let me know, glad to help

no...dont have media center xp...but the AIW comes with software that works essentially the same. maximumpc had this article that im basing the build on. they said that media center was OEM only, but that winxp and the AIW software would do virtually the same thing.

Kind of, sort of, but not exactly :). It does work though, and pretty easy to use. It's interface isn't near as smooth as media center or tivo. But...it's infinitely adjustable and more powerful, which I guess is better for most people anyway.
