Download the software (http://www.distributed.net/clients.html) for your system.

Configure the software with your email address (will want to do this the first time you start the client it will auto start the config process it's pretty self explainatory).

Visit your RC5 stats page 24 hours on DNET after your software starts crunching away at keys and has DUMPED some blocks.

It will be accessible at http://stats.distributed.net/projects.php?project_id=8 and do a search for your username and then when you have your own statistics page, scroll to the bottom and click on the "I cannot remember my password" link. this will cause it to send you your password so you can configure your own page and Join a team!

Check your email. You should have received a message from distributed.net. Your user ID# and password should be contained in that message.

Now to join the XtremePcCentral Team you need to go search for XtremePcCentral and at the bottom of the team's page it will have a link saying "I want to Join this Team" or something like that Click it. It will open a new window and follow the instructions :)
or to make it very easy you can use this link to join our team Warning..Only use this link if you want to join Team XtremePcCentral http://stats.distributed.net/participant/pjointeam.php?team=28724

Here is a quick explaination of what the Official DNET stats page shows you.

#1 Your position in the team ranking
#2 Your name
#3 Your position in the overall project ranking (the green shows how many spots you moved up:) or down:( in the last 24 hours)
#4 When you started with the project
#5 The last date you where active (dumped blocks)
#6 The amount of blocks you submitted in the prior 24 hours
#7 The % of that days total blocks for the team you personally contibuted
#8 The Total number of blocks you have contributed to the team
#9 The % of the total blocks overall you have contributed to the team.

To check the team stats go to http://stats.distributed.net/team/tmsummary.php?project_id=8&team=28724
and then you can click on the Overall or yesterday links to see the break down by members
Hope that helps

For those that dont want to fight with setting up the client Just download the zipped version (using the url from above) and unzip it to the folder and location of your choice.

Next create a file called " dnetc.ini " and put the following info inside of it. (use Notepad and when done just change the txt file extenstion to that of "ini"
*NOTE* Make sure you add in the "misc" section to all clients as that setting is the one that will force RC5 to be the project it works on by default

[parameters]
id=mntsnow@xtremepccentral.com

[misc]
project-priority=RC5-72,OGR=0

[triggers]
restart-on-config-file-change=yes
pause-on-no-mains-power=no

[display]
progress-indicator=auto-sense

[rc5-72]
fetch-workunit-threshold=0

*just change the email addy to that of yours unless you want to crack under my name ;) and let me get all the glory lol

The above would be a simple setup. the client is very configurable. If you need more specific help just start a thread with your questions and I and others will try and help best we can

Mntsnow
01-14-2003, 9:39 PM
BTW
It is VERY Dually Friendly. you only have to install the client once and requires NO special configuration settings and it is multi-threaded by default so it will use both procs automatically

btw if you want to run it as a service....Just create a shortcut of the dnet.exe and edit the properties of the shortcut to be

C:\DNET\dnetc.exe -install

This is the "target" line just add the " -install " and save it and just double click the shortcut. That will cause it to be installed as a service on your NT, 2k, XP boxes so it can run even without you have to log in to the box (note: of course the path might be different to the exe file as you might install it to a different directory than I did)

Of course when you dont want it to run as a service just change the -install to a -uninstall save and double click the shortcut and it will remove the client as a service

hmmmm your tempting me to sign up my dualie. it's doing 17 or bust right now with the smp client, which sucks as It's only using 50% of each procs. lots of cycles going to waste.

Well, I think I have it running on a machine :D - atleast I see a cow in the startbar. Now, lets see if I can join the Team ;) .

The interface is a bit different than what I am used to... but it looks pretty cool.

NDC
01-14-2003, 11:53 PM
Somehow I already joined the team. Perhaps it had something to do with XPC addy?

Mntsnow
01-15-2003, 7:27 AM
If you had clicked on the link I have above that automatically joined you to the team :)

Mntsnow
01-15-2003, 7:51 AM
I have dispatched an email to Nugget about why the Team Stats are not showing but our personal stats are.

MDS
01-15-2003, 6:29 PM
Mntsnow I have sent in some yesterday and today and still haven't recieved an email with my username password to join the team or log-on to see the stats link you posted. :(

Mntsnow
01-15-2003, 8:27 PM
Did you find your self listed in the Dnet stats?

What email address did you submitt blocks under?

Mortis
01-15-2003, 8:36 PM
I am still waiting... Its been a little more than 24hrs since I signed up. So, I should be crunching for the Team by Morning :D .

15-Jan-2003 19:28 CST (Wednesday) ::
Nerf & co. are running some big, hairy query on postgres on blower, which is
swamping one of the drive arrays. This is slowing stats processing down a huge
amount, so I'm going to turn the statsrun off until whatever they're running is
done. Sorry for the inconvenience.

This was posted by Jim Nash aka Decibel of Dnet. so just keep crunching and they will get things updated soon :).

Still havent heard back from Virus yet about if he is going to run a stats/proxy server for RC5-72

MDS
01-16-2003, 9:21 AM
still no email :( and I have sent close to 100 completes in.

Mntsnow
01-16-2003, 12:19 PM
They are fixing a couple of issues from what Cwizard has told me. Hopefully they will have it corrected shortly.... Atleast from past experence I can say atleast Dnet will fix it!

madfish
01-16-2003, 9:14 PM
can the client just work on RC5-72 alone instead of with OGR? if so how are the changes made?

Mntsnow
01-16-2003, 9:37 PM
Follow my instructions at the first of thread about how to make it work on RC5 only

MDS

I'm on the team now as siegrist@cableone :) and just added a second cow :)

noresull
01-16-2003, 9:57 PM
Ok, is the new file you directed us to make supposed to replace a file? If so, the only .ini file I have is dnetc.ini, not dnet.ini.

Is this ok, or should I rename it to dnetc.ini?

Mntsnow
01-16-2003, 10:02 PM
Thanks for catching that Noresull. Yes it should be dnetc.ini Just replace the contents of that file

I have updated that posting too :)

noresull
01-16-2003, 10:09 PM
Thanks mntsnow, I changed it and now all is well! :)

I still dont see me on the Team :( .

Biff
01-18-2003, 7:21 AM
Ok, i got it cooking on both boxes. It has been going for maybe 12hrs, when would it send in the packets? or more to the point when would i get an email with my acc & password? in a day or two?
Dave

Mntsnow
01-18-2003, 9:14 AM
Mortis. Double check your account to make sure you are still listed as being on Team XtremePcCentral If you are then shoot me an Email and I will contact Nugget and ask that he check into your account.

Biff the easiest way to do this is do a forced update by choosing "fetch/flush" from the file menu of the client. Then wait the required time tell after stats have been updated since you dumped blocks....Then find yourself and click the "I forgot my password" and it will email it to you....(the passwords are auto generated by dnet..You dont set it up..)

Biff
01-18-2003, 10:57 AM
That's why I come here mntsnow...ur so patient..lol
This place is the best

01-18-2003, 5:19 PM
I signed up last night with ya all and I'm waiting to see if it added me to the team tonight.
I only got nine blocks done, my box was off when I came home, dam power outage. again. I guess I'll need to put another box on, the 700 celly most likly. I'm leaving the dualie on seti tho.

Mike, heheh all I ended up doing was copy/pasted what you said to make for the ini into the one already there and let it save it. works great! thanks

codybear
01-18-2003, 5:48 PM
gee we only have something like 2 thousand years of computing right now to crack this....Its good to be part of a team again

Aids was and is a good cause but the client keeps stopping and has to be reinstalled and I'm kinda partial to that little cow

noresull
01-18-2003, 7:44 PM
Nevermind. I just found out what was wrong. DNET had my ID as noresull@hotmail.com.com I changed it to the proper one, but now I need to wait for it to update

Mntsnow
01-18-2003, 9:03 PM
Yep thats one nice thing about the RC5 client is that it's pretty dang stable :)

madfish
01-18-2003, 10:03 PM
hehe and very adictive too. I just brought the old P-II 450 out of retirement from the basement duty of collecting spiders :D just needs a nic and she'll be cracking RC5-72! working on a AMD K6-2/350 right now. I'll start on the 300A cellys in the morn, I hear ya can crank them up to 450 stable.
guess I'll be comandering the kitchen counter again :D

Mntsnow
01-18-2003, 11:37 PM
LOL Mad :) Alot of the ole' celly 300A's would clock quite well! :) Good luck with it

Now I'm on the team! :)

RK
01-20-2003, 9:13 PM
That link on the first page is very deceptive snow. I had clicked it looking for your stats to see what you are up to and it joined me to your team without asking or even a page saying I had joined. You may want to put a warning on it cause some from other teams visiting your board may accidently do what I did.

Not that you arn't a great group and all LOL But I would rather have had the points go to my team :)

Mntsnow
01-20-2003, 11:09 PM
It did that because you must have had your DNET info saved as a cookie....because if your not "logged in" to your account at DNET it will ask for your username and password to allow you to join :)

but I have added a warning....I should have just kept my mouth shut and you would have been crunching for XPC for months :D

RK
01-21-2003, 1:08 AM
LOL I had sent DNET a WTF mail about why I wasn't showing on the team stats LOL. I would have figured it out sooner or later. :) BTW I have a link for you to click on if your cookies are set :D

Mntsnow
01-21-2003, 7:12 AM
Sorry I dont cause I remember that from back in the RC5-64 days I had once joined Team Anandtech or HardOCP...for a day

but where's the link? hehe :D

Nothing and this have been going all day.. I shut down UD :(

surrealchereal
01-24-2003, 7:56 AM
I put it on Fingers PIII (I think it's a gig) he's crunching at a rate of 3,213,229 node/sec (with UD running) I'm on my 1.4 Tbird at a rate of 26,180 node/sec with out UD running.
What should I do?

I also tried changing the core and change the default priority in task manager to normal...

Perhaps if someone would post what I should set my client up to.. I can see if there is something horribly wrong??

Mntsnow
01-24-2003, 8:29 AM
I'll check to see what core my old 1.2 gig T-bird is using. and post it if no-one else can asnwer that before I get home from work

Maybe you got a corrupted download of the client? Delete the one you have and start over...

surrealchereal
01-24-2003, 8:35 AM
I will, because I just checked and my XP2k is cranking our 12 mm per sec,

Your old 1.2??? :p

Mortis
01-24-2003, 11:02 AM
Yea... something is up there Surreal... I just Benched my XP1600 and it is getting 4,246,108 keys/sec. I dont have any suggestions, though, sorry. I only dl'd the client and set it to run RC-5 72 only at MntSnow's suggestion by tweaking the dnetc.ini file. Dumb question- but you did do that, right?

EDIT: *NOTE* Make sure you add in the "misc" section to all clients as that setting is the one that will force RC5 to be the project it works on by default.

[misc]
project-priority=RC5-72,OGR=0
Do you have that line in your dnetc.ini file?

surrealchereal
01-24-2003, 5:50 PM
Yep I did.
I just deleted everything I could find. Hmmm wonder if I should go through the registry too?
I then de fragged.
I'm going to reinstall.
If I don't come back I shouldn't have gone registry poking! :p :D

robin801
01-30-2003, 4:57 PM
to add another system all i need to do is the exact same thing that i did for the one that i am running.

That is correct. :)

:) Alright Mntsnow, just downloaded, and installed the client.I got the funny cow at the bottom of my screen!! lol Is there a way to set this thing up to dump on my command? I really don't feel comfortable leaving this thing running while I'm at work, and dumping without my being here, now that I'm on cable. Oh yea Mike, I changed the the e-mail address in the ini file to mine!!!! lol

Dan, have you got a good firewall? If not it should be on the top of your list. :)

Mntsnow

Dan to manually dump the work just right click on the cow and choose "Update Buffers (Fetch & Flush)" This sends the work completed and downloads the fresh work that you will want to work on while offline

i am still having problems finding myself in the stats for anything on the dnet server...cant join until i find my login info, as i need to get a password...will try again, but something is up with it...i have done almost 40 blocks and demped em to the server, but still nothing...and i have been crunching nonstop for 4 days straight, if not more...still no stats in the server for my info...i am using my email addy at my ISP. *Deleted Email addy* is the exact one i am using...if anyone finds it, gimme a PM and let me know how u did it, so i can join

Mntsnow
07-18-2003, 8:10 AM
are you sure it's running? post what you have listed in your Dnetc.INI file here. I show no record of you ever connecting to the xpc stats/proxy server

Stroker
07-18-2003, 11:09 AM
After looking at the .ini file I see what the problem is, here I'll show you:

[parameters]
id=XXXXXXXXXXXX

[misc]
project-priority=RC5-72,OGR=0

[triggers]
restart-on-config-file-change=yes
pause-on-no-mains-power=no

[display]
progress-indicator=auto-sense

[rc5-72]
fetch-workunit-threshold=0

I had to add the following:

[networking]
nofallback=false
autofindkeyserver=yes
keyserver=

Makes me curious tho, I copied and pasted from your 2nd post Snow, I'm not sure what happened.
I'm sure it's related to operator error tho.:D

*edited to remove email address so bots cant pick it up and to show the correct keyserver info* -Mntsnow

Mntsnow
01-04-2004, 1:17 AM
Sorry guys but the Proxy stats server is history. It just became to much work to keep it going for as little it was being used.

If you want to keep doing RC5 on the machines you are doing it on please continue to do so and allow it to dump directly to Dnet as that is what I am doing.

diveram
01-04-2004, 12:33 PM
So does that mean the team is dismembered?

Mntsnow
01-04-2004, 12:39 PM
No...Just that I will not be running the proxy server...... I am still running RC5 on two boxes and they are dumping directly to Dnet

diveram
01-04-2004, 1:13 PM
I see, we can still get team state off of dnet. But for some reason I cant see myself on the team.. Any idea on that one?

Mntsnow

Have you ever officially joined the team at DNET? Click on the http://stats.distributed.net/participant/pjointeam.php?team=28724 and when it asks for your username and password use the one that DNET gave you....If you dont have it find your personal stats at Dnet and click on the "forgot password" link and Dnet will email you your info.....Then go back to the Join XPC link and jump thru the hoops and 24 hours later you AND your past blocks will be joined to the team :)

Proxy Stats Server will be sorely missed by me, I checked it regularly to monitor my daily progress. Do I need to go into my client and change an address? If so, to what?

Nope you dont have to change a thing as it will Auto default back to DNET when my proxy server doesnt answer OR you can update your .ini file to that like I list on the first post of this thread

Btw Your showing up officially on the team Brian!

Well I will try and get it to work on the new server but you will have to give me a couple of days to get it figured out...

I changed my ini file to read
keyserver=www.mntsnow.com, but my blocks are not showing up. It's been 13 hours since I changed it, and have made 2 or 3 dumps since then. What did I do wrong?

I also tried XX.XXX.XXX.165, and still nothing.

Roadkill Post the "network" section of your .ini file here so I can see it. Also was your client restarted after those changes were made? The client needs to be restarted so it can pickup and use the new settings

Machine # 1 (I got these settings from Diveram)

[networking]
nofallback=false
autofindkeyserver=yes
keyserver=

After reading your post I hit restart and did a flush and fetch, and it posted on the stats page.

Sorry Folks. DSL line is now gone....Thus no more RC5 Proxy server.

If you choose to continue to crunch RC5 please set your client to flush and fetch workunits directly from Dnet.

Basically all you have to do do is remove the "Keyserver" line from the dnetc.ini file in the networking section.

Thanks

I have got thru this thread and removed links to the dead proxy server
