View Full Version : Remove NEO as XPC will not run a team anymore...

Sorry guys....Team XPC is DONE.....

NEO (Mike Curry) Stated that they are going to be taking Xbox backup and they will also be zeroing out the stats.

Since they will be doing XBOX I personally cannot be associated with it.

The NEO client is being removed from all of my systems within the next 30 minutes.

This has turned out to be a big joke

Unfortunately XPC/I will not be sponsoring a team for a while as this has put a bad taste in my mouth. :(

If you would still like an easy project to try out I would personaly recommend the Distributed Folding project or Ecc2. I am running both at the moment and they are very easy to setup and run. Ecc2 is being run by some reputible admins and I doubt that anything like what is happening with NEO wil happen with their project. I personaly dont know the folks running DF though. But both projects seem to be dedicated to the tasks that they started out to accomplish.

Dont let poor decisions and poor planning ruin your fun guys. Just need to find a better project. Just pick one im running and see if you can catch me ;)

Thanks Fshanda,

But Realistically I cant afford to run all of my personal boxes 24/7 at 100% usage along with the servers I have that run XPC & 20+ other websites I currently Host & Support.

I did it to get Team XPC off to the races but I would have had to scale back on my output in a few weeks anyways (would have only ran it on 4 boxes instead of 9)...but I'll think about it...

im with fshanda...would be fun even to run 1 box for xpc. eccp2 is good and so is dist folding. i believe university of illinois (????) is running folding. cant get more reputable than that. eccp2 is new enough where xpc would be able to make a dent. Jberg at ecompute.org is running it, i dont think he would do anything goofy as he is in the same boat as you are with his business and reputation.

That's not your fault. How in the world could anyone know this would happen.
There are many other good DC projects as fshanda said. Don't let this stop you from having fun.

I echo what the others have stated Jadison....Not your fault....I was all for Neo too...To bad they just got wishy washy...

This weekend lets get into chat and if the members of XPC want to continue in a DC team I will support it (as long as I dont have legal issues with it as I do with Xbox)

Well, I had fun, I hate to see it go. I don't have the same concerns as you Mntsnow, with your assoc. with MS, but I didn't like the idea of cracking X-Box, nor the way Neo just started doing it. So I don't have a problem with shutting it down. As meny here have stated, I to am a team player and will go with the team. As Biff said, it's like the Indi 500 for geeks, and I've been bitten. I hope you will reconsider not switching to something else. Name the day and time for disscussing this in Live Chat, and I'll be there. I'm off to cut my box off the Neo Project right now.

Well, I guess I'm officially out too then. In my case, I didn't really mind the X-Box switch. The reason I did this was because we had a team. It wasn't like I was leaving my system on 24/7. This was just something I ran while I was using the system. This was just kinda interesting. Kinda like a race as Biff mentioned. I wouldn't mind starting a different client....

Well GMTA has decided to leave NEO as well. To bad it seemed like a decent project at first. Jadison don't blame yourself their were lots of teams that didn't forsee this turn of events.

Too bad really cause we had plans to catch you guys LOL.

ECC2 is a decent project. We just decided against it mostly cause a lot of our power is tied up in pentium machines and the client isnt very efficient on that architecture. Not sure what we will do just yet but will try to get in on the ground floor of something...Now if mtnsnow were to host a project..hehehe

RK, the Ecc2 crew is about to release an optimized client. The boost will be 10-15% on AND and PII/PIII systems but will be more like 70% for the P4 users that seem to be at a huge disatvantage in this project. It should level out the playing field nicely. The client is allready being tested and I have herd nothing but good results so far. JBerg is just waiting to make sure it runs without any problems before releasing it.

Thanks for the Update on Ecc2 Fshanda as I do have a majority of P3 & P4 systems

ECC2 is definitely a trust worthy project. Runs like a charm on an NT based OS as a service. Prob is, on 9x systems it runs in a dos box. So that may be annoying if any of you guys are running 98. Works good on linux also, using wine or the linux source.

Here's a list of projects if you want to start looking for a new one:

Well, I have dumped Neo too. Except for a couple boxes not here at the house. But looking at my output, I'd guess they have already crashed and quit running anyway :p

sigh... it was fun.

I'm prolly gonna get out of all DC (that I do for fun I mean).. :(

As Shark has said before, let us know where you go, and we will join the project as well.. There is something to be said for having good competition.. ;)

Byte Lab may not have a great website (I have no artistic talent) but what we do have is a large quantity of systems.

Keep us in the loop... And if it ever looks like Mntsnow has to shut down, you are welcome at the Byte Lab.. (We would need some serious site work though.. )

Good Crunching,

Sure thing, although I don't see it happening anytime soon. ;)

Too bad nobody has a project where you can have groups of teams who are coopetition..

Kinda like a superteam..

Hey guys, still don't got web access in my new apartment, but I did take NEO off of my system just before I moved it which was a week ago, I got fed up with it always losing packets & stuff & also i kinda had a feeling you guys were gonna dump it, as Ive read a lot of posts about the crap people have been putting up with & things not getting fixed. I still got folding@home set up on my system from Explosive Labs, but haven't run it since their last contest was over.

But what ever you guys decided to go with I'll join you & help out.
