View Full Version : Win2k: Save As explorer window Refresh

When I want to save a picture or a file from a website to my HD, I select save as, then that explorer window opens at a pre-determined default folder for that file type (i.e. C:\....\My Pictures).

But I prefer my own filing system, so I click on the down arrow to display all my drives. But whenever I do that, win2k pauses a second to refresh the CD drives before it displays all the drives.

Is there any way to disable that 2 second refresh delay? Obviously it's not that long a wait, but just gets annoying. TIA.

I'm pretty sure that the 2 second delay only occurs if you have CD's in those drives...otherwise, it shouldn't have a delay.

Yeah, but since I usually have a CD or 2 in the drives, it's kind of annoying to wait for the ROM drive(s) to whir up to speed.

Is there a registry tweak to disable this...?

Use Regedit.exe & search for "UpdateMode". Change it (or them) to zero. This might help. Also, make sure that the CDRom view in explorer isn't expanded or highlighted.

I also happened across this tip (http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBA/tip0000/rh0073.htm).
