Are you getting any "beep" codes sounded out?

Do you have a "pci" video card you could try?

robin801

no beep codes.:(

no pci video card.:(

Maybe the motherboard is grounding out in the case?
I would try to see if it runs with the motherboard out of the case

Also...

1) Try clearing the CMOS

2) Switching the processors around

took mobo out of case---no video

cleared cmos--nothing

the power led goes where it says:keylock?

does it need 2 pins or 3?

that is the only thing that i can think might be wrong.

MDS

robin it should boot without the power LED and the keylock is for a keyed switch on the front of the case not the power led. also you may try booting it without the ram in to see if you get a bio beep error, which would tell that it is acually finding the ram. also you may want to try to boot with one cpu first and see if it will boot. Is this mobo new or used?

robin801
01-01-2003, 1:46 PM
mobo is used.

i tried without the ram--no beep error.

i will try with one cpu and come back.

robin801

i cpu and no ram--no beeps and no video.

EDIT: ok. i'm sitting down.

what is the bad news.(what could be bad).:(

Do you have a different stick of ram to try? The board may not like the ram you have in there.

Might want to try another AGP card too, if you have one available.

Did the board come with the CPU's installed and do you have the manual?

Mntsnow
01-01-2003, 2:14 PM
Well with No beep codes when you have CPU's in place and NO ram in place I'm starting to suspect a bad board or dead CPU's.

a board must be good & must have working CPU (s) to be able to do a beep code and thats all that is required to get a "no memory" beep error

Robin did the sellers of the Mobo and CPU's promise they were working parts? How did they come packed to you? In Anti-static bags?

everything came in static wrap.

i bought the mobo from "mile-high"

the cpu from "mrcomputer"

i will contact them and let them know what is going on.

thanks for the chart. that is how it is setup.

Just one scenerio I got for ya.

If someone just had one CPU in there, would it have to go into a specific slot? If that was the case what, if robins CPU that needed to be in there was toast and the other one was ok?

OK I'll phrase it differently, when you had only one CPU in there Robin did you try switching it with the other one?

no i didn't.

i will try that.

When you tried a single processor, did you have a slot 1 terminator for the second slot?

robin801
01-01-2003, 9:22 PM
no. i don't know what a terminator is.

MRCOMPUTER
01-01-2003, 9:45 PM
Some Dual mainboards require a terminator card, (Dummy Cpu Card), when only one processor is installed. Check the mainboard manual to see if this is required on your Epox board...;)

robin801

i'm still trying to narrow things down.

cpu were tested before shipping.--so this is not the problem.

ok. this is my first time using slot cpu.

it looks like they can only go on one way.----yes or no

i pushed them down until they clicked in place.

the cpu jumper was already where the marking is in the picture that was posted.

i tried a different case(a brand new one)

i tried everything else that was posted.

did i leave anything out?

haven't heard anything back about the mobo.

from what i can tell the only thing i can do now is wait for the other stick of ram that i ordered to arrive and try that.

Heres a couple of things you can try-

Remove the URM's, (Plastic Processor Guides/Retainers), from the mainboard. Some brands of retainers prevent the Slot 1 processors from fully seating. Plug the processors directly into the slots without the retainers.

Remove the mainboard from the case. Set it up on a box as a minimal system. This will eliminate grounding issues.

Where have you got JP100 set? Auto or 100?
Try the other position....;)

The jumper on your board should be next to the 350MHz marker not the 400MHz one.

the cpu jumper was already where the marking is in the picture that was posted

Provided I can get some free time this weekend, I've got an unknown condition dual slot 1 PII Intellistation board I can check out. Provided it works, I'd let it go for shipping cost only. Three issues, it will need about 330W power supply or larger, is an extended ATX form factor(longer than normal ATX) and requires ECC ram(I may have some that I can throw in). I have a pair of engineering sample 333s that'll go with it, a Slot 1 terminator and it has onboard SCSI(dual 68pin UW2 and single 50pin narrow).

Update-

I'm down to the last thing to try.

I can pull the bios chip and flash it to the latest on another board using the "Hot Flash" method.

If you wish me to try this - Contact the Seller first. Make sure this will not prevent you from returning the board for a refund.

If he agrees - I'll try this tomorrow.

The memory stick is bad. No question about that.

Xaotic has made you a Super Offer.

I have a back up plan as well.

LMK...;)
