This is killing me!
2 Computers running XP Pro
1: I just connected two XP PRO machines via a switch.
2: Both PC's Can get onto the internet without a problem.
3: Shared the respective drives/folders.
4: On the older machine I was able to map and connect to the newer PC.
5: On the newer one, I can not connect to the older one. I get an error that I may not have permissions contact the administrator.
So I took this advice and contacted myself and I have permissions (LOL).
I am going NUTS! any ideas?

Do both machines have the same user accounts with the SAME passwords? Also double check your file permissions to make sure you added the correct accounts to the share permissions and lastly have you rebooted both machines? Let one get to the desktop fully before starting the other one

1: Different Admin Names, same password
2: Didn't add any accounts to file permissions.
3: Can navigate to the new PC from the old one.
Where do I add account permissions, I seem to have forgotten EVERYTHING about networking over the last three days! ARGH!
do you have a file share set on the source folder - and then are you calling it by searching for the computer name on the new box and then linking to the share?
Also - which network protocols are you using?
Lastly - is one running a firewall and the other not running a fire wall? - which ports do you have opened if there is a firewall?
Have you tried setting up FTP on one box and getting there from the other box?

The easiest way would be to add your "other" user account to each box. (right clik on MyComputer and choose Manage) then choose "local users & groups" Then double click on "users" and then in the right hand window right clik and choose "New User" Create the New user using the Name and password from the "other" box.
Once your done setting up the user accounts go to the "shared resource" and right clik on it. choose "sharing" and then add the user acconts you want to grant permissions to and set the level of permissions. apply those changes and your off and running :)

Ok I set the accounts up but I see no shared resources. Only Shared Folders with sub folders of Shares, Sessions and Open Files. Hmm I feel like a retard.
Before I rebooted I could actually see this computer under the "Home" in MS Windows Network. Now even that is gone..
have you checked the settings for XP's firewall and make sure to let it pass the IP range. I not sure exactly how XP firewall works but may be something to look into. Also can the new puter ping the old one OK, The old one's sending and recieving packets OK from the sounds of it so I would say the new puters firewall is letting things pass but maybe the old one is blocking

All the internal Firewalls are turned off. That is taken care of by my Cisco Router... I am about to pull out the .45 and shoot them both.
I have had zonealarm in the past and removed it and it did the same thing until I fired it back up and added the IP range to the trusted zone then everything went well from there. Can both the new one ping the old one OK?

What message do you get?
Have you set up a guest account to access the drive?

I fixed it I can now see all computers from all computers! I installed IPX/SPX and what do you know everything showed up. I feel stupid as hell.... Chalk it up to a MAJOR BRAIN FART!

That's weird, I didn't know anything used IPX anymore. I use TCP/IP for everything.
