I know this is a simple setting issue or something, but I just figured I'd post it while I work on it to speed things up.

I hooked up the Logitech Z-540 speaker system to a computer system that has a CompUSA sound card which has five connections on it (black, green, pink, blue, yellow). I put the green plug in the green outlet, and the black one in the black outlet. The black one is supposed to be for the rear speakers, however I am getting no sound out of them.

I went into the control panel>sounds and multimedia>audio tab (Win2k), and under Sound Playback for SB Live! Wave Device (only one listed)>Advanced Tab, I set it to surround sound...still no sound in rear satellite speakers. Set it to 5.1 surround, nothing. Set it to Quadraphonic...nothing from rears. The two front speakers and the woofer are fine. It's just the rear that I am having problems with.

I even tried taking out the black connection, and hitting the M3D button as suggested in the directions, but that didn't help.

Should I leave the black connection connected as well as the green?

How do I get sound out of the rears?

have you tried putting the rears into the front connector just to make sure the speakers themselves are working? If they are put them back into the rear connector and make sure you play something that does have a rear channel output

Thanx. I'll give that a try.

Can you say F-A-D-E-R?!!

It was actually a combination of my not thinking, and the default settings for the speakers. For some reason, out of the box, Logitech has it set so that the fader is turned all the way down so there is no sound coming out of the rear speakers. But it is not enough to just turn up the fader if you are just playing music. You also need to hit the M3D button to get all four speakers working. Of course when you are playing a game that has its sound effects using all four channels, you need to take it off M3D. :cooldude:
