Ok here's the deal I'm building a system for this guy money not that big of object. I was going to go with a SOYO KT400 dragon ultra and add a firewire card. It needs to have game port, usb's, firwire, support ddr 2100 or 2700 ram, and support xp2400+ cpu. He is using this sytem for video editing and burning final image to DVD as I will be putting in the DVD burner he jus purchased. He want's a mobo that can be upgraded down the road, and also if it has onboard sound would like a good(if there such a thing) onboard sound.
So far I have the following for the system:
*AMD XP2400+ cpu retail but wil prob. add better HS/fan
*120gig maxtor HD
*Pioneer DVD burner not sure what model(he has to bring it over still)
*16xdvd rom
*48x cdrw drive
*floppy
*2- 512 sticks of ddr2100 crucial ram
*case & 420 antec psu
* GF4 ti4200

I did a search on NewEgg for motherboards and added fire wire to the search filter. There are about 8 to choose from, all major manfacturers. They all looked like nice boards. I had to close the page before I bought something for myself. Im not ready for an upgrade so I havent been keeping tabs on the new goodies.

I use a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP board which uses the VIA KT400 chip. Currently using PC 3200 DDR ram in it. Comes with built in RAID.. 6 USB 2.0 and 3 IEEE 1394 ports (by cable)..as well, there is a connection on board for a smart card reader, secure digital and memory stick. Also has on board LAN, and audio. Not too badly priced either..

I'm posting right now from the system I jus built with the 7VAXP ultra and let me tell it's a great mobo :) I jus with it had dual DDR support, but with jus over 1gig if DDR2700 ram this thing rocks :) The only problem I have is I have to get a differnt case as the PSU won't fit inside as the cpu hs/fan(volcano7) is too big and gets in the way.

Cool!
I have the same board in one of my systems, and I really like it
:)
Glad to hear it finally arrived and that all is well.
