i want to be able to share some mp3/movies files with my friends.

with ws_ftp le i would need a ftp server(is this correct)

if i use a program like serv-u or bulletproof would i still need to use ws_ftp le?

what software would my friends have to have installed in order to download from me?

i am using win2k and zone alarm.

my friends are using win98.

i can do the setup on my win98 box if this would be easier.

i also have dsl and a router.(linksys befsr41).

You will need a "server" ftp program first of all. (I personally like bulletproof ftp server.)

and then you will still need a ftp "client" which is what ws_ftp_le is.

the client is what "talks" to the server allowing you to get thru the connection process and show you what files are avalible to you.

the server side then "serves" the client with the "info" that it requested.

Here is a totorial by bulletproof

Yes

and in their configuration they will put your server's ip address and what port your running the server on and then of course the username and password you set up for them

i would like to chime in, they dont necessarily have to have ws_ftp installed. you can use good ole IE to browse ftps.. a lil different, but no need to install software.

correct but I personally like the speed and fuctionality of a true ftp client :) and besides ws_ftp-le has a much smaller resources footprint than IE :)
