Hey, Its me!!! At home I have Verizon DSL, lately the download speeds have dropped tremendously, usually I DL at about 160 Kbps but now it has dropped to 88 Kbps, I have tried different computers, different modems, I want to know why, I am a heavy Downloader and hate waiting hours for Windows Update to finish.:hammer:

Microsoft Updates are notorious for slow download speeds. Try Speedtest.net (http://www.speedtest.net/)

don't know much about Verizon, but you said your a heavy downloader... they haven't capped your max download speed due to that have they? Ive heard rumors of other ISP's doing that sometimes?

They didn't notify me about anything like that. Speedtest says I am supposed to have 726 kbps Down and 128 kbps up!

give them a call & see what they have to say, maybe something isn't connected right or switched right on their end or to your house or area?
also depending on the servers you download from, some might be uploading slowly, so your going to be limited to that as well. & like vester said, Windows Does usually download their updates rather slow. I don't have it download that slow, but I know I never get anywhere near 50% let alone what my max download is.
one way I test my download every so often, and in a much more practical real world way is I go to Gamers Hell www.gamershell.com & find a small game demo to download, usually via one of the multiple 1 Gigabit server mirrors (sometimes there are even 2 or more Gigabit servers listed), find one with few used slots or few users on it, so I can maximize my download from it, & see what its downloading at. usually if I'm there at a slow time of day with little users on the mirror I choose & as long as its a 1000Mb server, I can usually near max out my download speeds, at almost 5Mb, usually more like 4.6 or 4.7Mb down.

Oh my god the madness Is spreading, DownLoading Sam&Max Ep. 1 Demo, it was a gigabit mirror, at 98 % and it's hanging around 30 to 40 kbps! Which, sadly, means it wont be done for 26 hours!*$&^$#&#^%$&#$%&#$%@&^%$#&^%$&#!!!!!!!!!:hammer::hammer::hammer::hammer::hammer: :hammer::hammer::hammer::hammer:

I am fine with my connection downloads, but what I am more concerned with is response time - aka ping and latency.
29 milliseconds can't be beat.

Mine is OK, especially considering the lad is downloading something. Makes the ping a bit laggier....
