I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced this or if this is uncommon... I am running a dell 1400sc server which is dual CPU ready and running one p3 866MHz, and I got a VRM to install a second identical CPU, and when I did, the CPU temp on the 1st cpu went from 85F at idle to 125F at idle, and the second CPU also ran at 125F at idle. I removed the second CPU and it went back to 85F at idle. Do they just run hotter when there are two because they are communicating with each other or something? The inside of the case isn't any warmer. I'm a bit dumbfounded by this.

that is strange. maybe you have a wacky VRM?

the temps should not rise that dramatically w/thje addition of the second cpu unless your case has some serious ventilation issues.

Or possibly a faulty/wacky temp probe or diode or whatever it is? is this the temp reading in the Bios? or some 3rd party program?

well i'm not so sure it's a faulty temp probe because when I have the second CPU in and Win2k configured for dual CPU, the OS is a bit unstable, I get some random BSOD's. They are a matched pair of CPU's.
