View Full Version : New Pentium Question

Greetings... I am currently running a 1.5@1755 on an MSI 648 Max-L. I am eying the 2.4 and fighting urges to purchase... especially since its price increased by $10 lately around various sites- when it comes back down, I am going with it.

This brings up the Question- Can I just remove my previous Pentium and Go with the 2.4 after clearing the CMOS, or is it recommended to do a clean install of the OS for whatever reason? I have now been told both by friends with no real explanations.

Thanks,
Mortis

EDIT: For Example, I had to do a clean install when I went from a Duron to an XP Chip to get some of the features recognized during install... is there anything like this with what I plan to do?

You should be able to go straight into it. (as long as your bios supports 2.4 or higher) If not then flash the bios (if avalible) prior to installing the new chip.

If you end up having to flash (and don't know how) check this thread - http://www.xtremepccentral.com/vbforums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34&highlight=Flash

Thanks Guys! I should not have to Flash- my Board Bios has only had one revision and that was not related to CPU Speeds. Currently, it states it will support a 2.8+ . I will probably have to Flash at that point, for the + part, but at those speeds/prices, it will be a long while before my Wallet will let me "Flash" :).
