Funnon T. Shimmin

PRICE Utah - Devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Funnon Thayn Shimmin, age 81, passed away peacefully at his mountain cabin on July 16, 2006.

He was born November 13, 1924 in Wellington, Utah to Samuel Foster and Vera Thayn Shimmin.

Married Donna Perry, February 23, 1951, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple; they later divorced.

Married his longtime companion of many years, Ann Macdonald, November 15, 2003 in Wellington, Utah.

Member of the LDS Church where he had served as superintendent of Sunday School for many years. He served as past-president of the Water Company, Cattlemen’s Association, and the Price Lion’s Club. He was awarded Soil Conservation Rancher of The Year. Funnon worked as a General Agent for Sentinel Security Life Insurance Company for 52 years, where he qualified for the presidents club convention every year until retirement and was awarded Salesman of the Year several years running. Funnon was a friend to all he especially enjoyed helping serve families for over 50 years with Mitchell Funeral Home.

Funnon loved the outdoors and he enjoyed working on his ranch and cattle operations. He was always developing additional rangeland for his cattle and improving habitat for wildlife on his mountain property. His home away from home was his cabin, where he could always be found entertaining guests and guiding hunters for deer and elk. He enjoyed his many friendships that he made in his snowmobile, riding and dance clubs. Funnon’s concern and friendship for others will leave us with a lifetime of memories.

Survived by his wife, Ann Shimmin, Price; two sons and one daughter, David (Terri) Shimmin, Springville; Diane (Gary) Riddle, American Fork; Michael (Tammie) Shimmin, Sandy; step-children, Ian (Jennifer) Macdonald, Lafayette, LA; Pam (Dean) Henderson, Riverton; Mark (Denise) Macdonald, Brooklyn Park, MN; Mary Macdonald, Midvale; sister, Lucille (Andrew) Cook, Carbonville; brother, Dean (Judy) Shimmin, Provo; sister-in-law, Jacqualine Shimmin, Tooele; 9 grandchildren, 16 step-grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents Samuel & Vera, A son, Philip; and brother, Lynwood.

Funeral service, Friday, July 21, 2006, 11:00 a.m., Price Fourth LDS Ward Chapel, located at 585 East 400 North in Price. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Thursday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and at the church Friday from 9:30 a.m.- 10:45 a.m. Interment, Price City Cemetery.

So sorry to hear that Snowman. Losing a parent is a very difficult thing.
I lost my Dad 10 years ago, and it's still tough.

please accept our condolences mike, tammy and the whole family. your dad looks to be a feisty, mischevious, loving man who's great legacy is his love of family and people. he will surely be missed.

Our thoughts are with you Mike. Uncle Funnon was a truly great man, "last of a dying breed," as the song says. We will love and miss him forever. Sincerely, Kym and kids
