If you're a newbie to flash, then the tutorials in flash itself will be a big help. They are split into short basic lessons that you can do in just a few minutes, so you can be flashing right away.

I don't have any mx books, but I like the format of the Visual QuickStart Guide series of flash books. I have flash 5 series by Catherine Ulrich, very basic, low price and easily understood. They have lots of illustrations and tips, once you've outgrown that, there is an advanced edition. There MX versions ISBN: 0201794810

There are oodles of tutorials out there, a good place to start would be http://www.flashkit.com/tutorials/

Have fun

Yea, the tutorials in flash are good (and also in other macromedia programs). I took one of those 2 day classes on flash mx and it was about the same as tutorial.

actually, my advice is to work with SWiSH 1st, (www.swishzone.com) and then try Flash... I used SWiSH fo all of my animations on my site, http://www.davesaidwhat.com

yes, this was a shameless plug...

Another great book with lots of visuals is "Friends of Ed" (http://www.friendsofed.com/flash/index.htm) and Robert Penner (http://www.robertpenner.com/) has written a book.

Check out my Links - Resources (http://www.thedesignswork.com/links.html) page for more great Flash sites :D

the Gif format doesnt support sound....Although you could hack your vbulletin software to call for swf files rather than gifs but would require a good combing of the scripts to find all of them
