Well guys we are testing....The sites are now running on a seperate Database server to test out my config and see if that will help with performace of the sites I run...

All of the Databases which are for php-nuke(the frontend of XPC), the vbulletin Forums and Photogallery for XPC & 3 other databases that are used for test websites, Are now running on a seperate server which should make all of the websites run more smoothly as it takes a lot of load off of the main webserver (which btw runs 17 diferent websites lol)

Here is the new configuration that is now in place

Web Server = AMD 1800XP on MSI KT3Ultra ARU with 256 DDR333 memory.

Database Server = Dual AMD 1800xp/Mp's on a Tyan S2460mp board with 256 of ECC registered DDR 266 memory.

I plan on bumping up the memory to a full gig on both as soon as I can get a good pricing on it and funds allow. (pc2700 ddr regular and pc2100 ddr registered ecc)

The Webserver will be the first to get memory as the DB used to be on the same server as the webs and it ran ok with only the occasional hic-up when it ran out of physical memory and had to restart a process.

The loads right now are pretty light on the dbserver so we shall see how things go. Thanks for letting me play ;)

Doh...Well the DB server is now up to 768 Megs of ECC Registered DDR memory. (I stole a stick of 512 out of my “Workstation” AMD Dually as I've been to busy lately to be doing much DVD editing or such so it will survive on 512 for now and will save my pennies for xmas and taxes :( lol (since it was at a gig lol) and now to bump the memory in the Webserver...

I noticed that my backend network is fairly well saturated since I've been using a 10bt SWITCH that I've had as I didn’t want to use a 10/100 HUB that I did/do have available due to collisions possibility, so tomorrow I will order/pickup another 512 of 2700 DDR and a 10/100 16port SWITCH for the backend network and we shall be set as that will put both the Webserver and DBserver at 768 of mem which shall be plenty :)

Glad to see the new server's in place...speed is definately not a problem here at XPC. :D

(Good idea on swapping out the memory, save $$$ when you can :) )

Mntsnow,

I just had a question, what kind of Internet connection are you running all of this on?

Ok .. I was thinking about trying to set up my own webserver, for messing around with and friends and such. My cable company (Comcast) has a program for 90 bucks a month that you can get 3.5mbit down and 512kbps up. I was hoping that would be enough to run a decent webserver. I didn't know whether the webservers rely more on download or upload speed. I figured upload and was gonna hope 512 would be enough.

512 would be fine. I actually ran my old Digitalmntsnow forums for about 9 months on a 256 upload and it worked fine. :)

I say go for it Undead. Learning the the whole aspect of hosting and such has been a kick for me. I've learned more from running everything myself than I ever did in a class room.
