In normal computer usage, will I notice a differance between the two speeds?

truthfully not really.... If you were doing disk intensive stuff then yes the increased rotational speed will help but truthfully whats an extra 2 seconds on a 300 meg transfer?

:) I've actually started to use the 5400's for storage. Think about it.....it's mainly data thats not accessed all the time and most of my systems have tons of memory so I really dont use swap so the 5400's save me a ton of money in the long run. on my graphic's/dvd machine I use the fast drives I can afford but it's doing totally different kind of work.

I had a 5400 rpm hard drive before and it was so much slower then my 7200 rpm now, these are both not old hard drives.

Anyway i play a game called Global Operations (online FPS) and i went from a bad frame rate 640 x 480 to a pretty good 800 x 600 and i only replaced my hard drive, and yes i use norton speed disk alot and that was on both drives.

Maybe with storage it doesnt mather that much but with games it makes alot of difference

Check this thread, I have seen some 5400's that blow the doors off 7200 rpm drives->>

In my opinion, 7200rpm is definetly worth the money. The difference is like night and day... However, as mentioned above, if you're going to use this hard disk only for storage, 5400rpm is a way to save a few bucks...
