IBM have finally decided to jump into the "8MB cache" wagon. They've released the 180 Gxp series (http://www.storage.ibm.com/hdd/desk/ds180gxp.htm) with 8mb cache and 60GB per platter.

I wonder how it compares to the WDC JB series.
I can't believe I bought 2 of these WDC 2 weeks ago. I wish I had waited a bit longer. Two of these 180Gxp HD would have been a fine addition to my server...

Never fails does it Stan :( Sure enough 2 weeks let alone 2 days after I buy something something newer and faster and or neater comes out :) lol

yes but are you allowed to run if for more than 8 hours a day?

good question Bhess. I'm going to have to start switching back to scsi drives because of the new warranties and "run time" requirements :(

I don't know about US but here in UK the WDC JB and 180Gxp series are still on a 3 year warranty.

Yes Stan here in the US the "special" series or top of the line IDE drives are still avaliable with 3 yr warranties. but they still have the "power on" restrictions from what I can tell and have been told
