By this I mean have you ever had a job where you've messed up, broken something, caused an accident, or made a mistake resulting in a financial loss (basically it came out of your pocket)? Be honest now. Besides, accidents do happen and mistakes can be made - its how we learn.

I went for No, because my main job is fixing people, and I cannot afford to make mistakes! Ever!

Fixing computers, well, I guess I have misjudged the time it would take to do something a few times, quoted for 3-4 hours work when in reality it's taken me 8 -10 hours to complete!

It has happened to me once, because I misjudged and bought a sub-standard power supply. I made up for it by selling the power supply (for a lesser-required system) for more than I paid for. I ended up breaking even overall.

I guess I should have said - computer related :P

I voted NO, because I don't fix computers for money. On the rare occasion I do fix someone's comp, I tell them up front that I'm a hobbyist, not a professional, I make no garrentee's, I make no profits, and I'm NOT RESPONSIBLE for any scewups I might make. If they agree to that, then I try to fix their computer.

I've messed up, broken something, caused an accident, and made a mistake resulting in a financial loss but it's never came out of my paycheck.

Oh wait, computer related.... Nope, can't say that I have.

From the title, I thought this thread was about literally eating your work. I deliver eggs for a living and I eat them all the time. :yumyum:

It's not my job, and yes i have worked on computers, but i never broken anything, atleast not to my knowledge (my brother always had and still has lots of stuff like network cards and all, and he never really knows which work, so perhaps i broke 1, but i doubt it)

computer related. I don't work on other peoples computers. I've screwed up on my own stuff a few times.

Unfortunately Yes. But that was business and fortunately I had always carried a financial buffer to cover things like that.

a few times, but I learned after the 4th time. {god don't ask me about that one!} and don't do it anymore. like roadkill said, I say I'm a hobbyist and will look at it, but thats about it and I will tell them what might be wrong with it, but don't take my word for it.
sigh most folks around here just toss them into the bin and go buy a new machine when their old one acts up. what a waste.
