Hi,

It was suggested that I try you guys out for this question:

I work in a very Apple office (it's a graphics design company). Recently we got a shiny new pentium computer and it came with XP on it.

We had a technician come in and set it up (because pc's are frightening:rolleyes: ) and he left. On Friday I turned it on and I must say, XP is quite nice, not at all like Windows 95.

About an hour after I turned it on I got a call from our IT support guy in Montreal. He wanted to know why the machine I was on was accessing every machine on the network. Is this something XP does? If it is, why does it do it? He thought it was some kind of virus, which seems kind of silly since the computer is brand new and nothing has been downloaded on it yet.

Thanks for any help. I look forward to posting some graphics in your gallery soon.

Depending on how the XP box was set up it was possiably "browsing" the network to make a listing of the network resources.

Has any virus scans been run on the box just to make sure?

Btw Welcome to XPC

This morning our network guy dropped by and installed fprotect and said the machine is a clean machine (as in no viruses).

Would XP only do the browsing for network resources thing once or all the time? Is there a way to stop if from bothering our technicians five hundred miles away?

So far the lone Windows Computer in the office is getting a lot of attention. It seems to surf faster and print quicker, and it hasn't even crashed yet!;) We get a bunch of Adobe stuff put on it this afternoon and then we'll see who's really faster.

Thanks for the welcome, my bro was right, you guys are helpful and polite.:)
