Was at my Mom's yesterday when my brother dropped by and he says he can't get online most of the time or stay online long when he does.
I posted this here because he DSL, but I'm really thinking he's probably got some nasty messing up his connection.
What should I look for? He runs AVG and it was set to auto update, so I'm not sure it's a virus, but I have this nagging feeling since he and wife are known to download and install lots of "cute" things.
My first step will be to power off modem, router, pc's and reset them.
If that doesn't solve the connection problem, I'll try taking the oldest pc off the router and running sys restore on the other one, and see if that does anything.
If that doesn't help, I can try reinstalling the OS on the old machine (it's been having some OS problems anyway) and see if that works.
I'm really, really, really trying to avoid reinstalling the OS on their main machine and wiping out the hd because I know they have a scud load of pesonal stuff on that machine and I would have to listen to complaints about it for weeks, if they lost all their stuff.
So any input, suggestions are appreciated.
