Actually, the Tyan AMD boards come in two flavors which are MP or MPX chipset. As for the difference in the two chipsets, you may want to read this little article I did on the board some time back...

Not exactly. You won't be surfing any faster than you would on a single processor system. This performance will depend on your line... :)

Before you jump on the duallie wagon, you may want to check this out and see whether it would be worth your money and time...

SMP FAQ's (http://www.2cpu.com/smp-faq.htm)

Actually, for what I do on this thing, it would be a total waste of money.I would achieve the same results getting a new mobo, and faster cpu.But it sure would be fun to build one, just for the new learning experience!!!

Really informative FAQ's, dam glad I got one of the linux os's, but there's no way i'll ever have enough money to max out the # of CPU's it can support unless i win the powerball lottery.

This is one that Mntsnow missed -

NEF - means - Never Ending Fun in my book and was started by a guy at AT forums - got banned - basically went off into the nietherland in every post he ever posted to - hence - NEF.

Shyguy had replied before I saw this so I didnt want to remove Mad's and then have people wondering what happened when Shyguys post would not have made any sense. Thus I left this one alive ;)

Actually after using and building duallies for a while I hate to surf the net with anything less than a dual proc unit.
Sounds silly but surfing can be very multi-tasking heavy. Your computer is constantly switching operations, running poorly written VB and java apps, using bloated browsers like MSN or AOL with multiple messengers, ICQ, Outlook or a variant.
Downloading and updating things as you go along.
Of couse you would be insane to run without a firewall and anti-virus.
Lets not forget the lan and DSL adds to the load more than just a modem.

I have had plenty of time thinking about it. I get as much benifit surfing as any of my more processor intensive progams.
Surfing is constant interaction and instant gratification for me and my dually.

Just my $542.50 worth.

Personally, I haven't noticed any of my single processor systems to surf slower than my multi-processor systems... :)

I have a 1.1 ghz notebook that I remote control the herd from half the time. It surfs a lot slower than my duallies.
I just ditched the P4 at 2.8 ghz. It was pretty close to the same feel but not quite.
I have to keep the notebook because I do a lot of work from the den. The office is mainly for computer building.
Through the remote it surfs faster than direct from the notebook.

At first I felt the same way you guys do. But time and use has made it clear that for a heavy surfaholic duallies can't be beat.
I know. I'm spoiled. I Could just cruise with the notebook. But I don't have to.:)

Just a joke about the power consumption in my office.
