Guys, I hate to appear dumb, but this has been bugging me, and I want to know the answer. What's a low level format? Is it the same format that you use in DOS to format a disk, or is it something else?
Low level format is when you delete partitions... Kinda like having a record with no tracks... Brand new disks come low-level format...

On the same topic...
I've low level formated scsi disks by going into the scsi bios menu while booting. But, can you low level ide drives? I use SpinRite which I guess is similiar.
Well Guys the reason I had to ask was after using fdisk to format, and re-partition my hard drive, I continued to have problems when running scandisk. I finally went to Maxtors website, and downloaded Maxblast 2. I used it, and re-partitioned the drive, and formatted using it.I just ran scandisk on the thing, and all problems appear to be resolved.Don't ask me what the difference was in the two, because I have no idea. It's working now,and as the old saying goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it!! So I'm leaving well enough alone!!!!!!:D
Great to hear. Probably did a low level format and checked each drive region for problems. A low level format has revitalized several SCSI drives for me.
