The fastest EVER Hd I've tested was in a Dell, 900mhz Celery with WinME, a Quantum 5400 rpm 20g.

A shade over 44 mb/sec sustained, as reported by this "HD Speed" utility.

All the 7200, 20gb Maxtor & WD BB200's I got from Dell for $55 tested from 14-16 mb/sec :( these were, I think, the "quiet" drives.

It [HD Speed] reports 6 mb/sec on old 4g Maxtors, I guess 4,400 or 3,800~

I've not tested the Quantum AS series that I got several of, I bet they'd go..

Thought you'd like the report on the matchup on my Dell & HD, which BTW cost me $285.00 + tx. last summer :)
