Looks like you will be joining the SMP wagon soon, eh? ;)

Yes.... *dreaming***** of Tyan Tiger MPX goodness lol... gotta find the best price now... and it looks like I missed the days of cheap RAM =P but oh welll.. it's exciting :) My First Dualie ...

I've been lurking / reading in here too, and reading most the day. And I'll be posting in this forum now, too :)

Hopefully it will be coming together by the weekend! :bunny:

Well, a taste is all you need to fall in love with duallies. I know you are not a gamer and use applications that will benefit from the dual setup. Say good bye to your days of muti-tasking in molasses! LOL... I could have a filter rendering that takes minutes to complete and still go about doing other graphic tasks as well as browse the Internet, and listen to MP3 as well as have another huge task running and still holds up to speed quite well. Something you could never imagine doing on any uni-processor system even if you had a single 4Ghz system! Throw on a SCSI spining at 15K rpm and you'll really be stylin! :D

Sounds really good, NDC. I know you, Mike, BBA and Otheos love your dual systems! Anyone else here run SMP? :)

If you know me, I always have lots of high-resource apps and stuff going on.. 10+ windows open at the same time is normal lol.. so I'm looking forward to seeing all this *stuff* you've been raving about ;)

Welp, you shall see soon that this is no tale from the ancient hills, my young grasshoppa! lol

i thought about trying my hand at building a duallie, but i think i need to play around and get to know my system better before i try that.

can't quite justify spending the money yet.

but i know who to call upon when the time comes. lol

Hi DVNT1. Nice to see you here. 'Course, it's nice to see you anywhere :)

Ok, I guess I'll get the Tyan and 512x1 DDR-RAM PC2100 through Monarch.

I will need a couple of HSF, as well. This was recommended to me: Dr Thermal Ti-V77L (http://www.svcompucycle.com/newtherintiv.html) and here's a review (http://www.pcabusers.com/reviews/drthermal/drt.html)

Q? Does a HS need to be MP rated for an MP CPU?

Socal

lol.. nm

BTW - nice to see you to Socal :)

Yep, I was telling Socal the very same thing yesterday. Even the factory heatsink/fan does a decent job from my experience. And I know you're not planning on overclocking these chips, so I think you'll be fine.

I ordered the Tyan S2466N-4M Tiger MPX from MonarchComputer this morning; came to $217.45 shipped (2-3 day).

I've also ordered the DDR-SDRAM PC2100 Basic from Mushkin. I called and spoke to a Mushkin rep who clarified that the conflicting 'guarantee to work / not work on AMD 760' in the product description was in reference to the first two non-ECC rated slots vs. the two ECC only slots. He guaranteed their Basic RAM to work in the proper non-ECC slots, and that they will amend their webpage to clarify this.

Now all I have left are the HSFs... I'd like to continue using old Volcano II on one CPU. However, I can no longer find them for sale. Is it recommended I use another different HSF on the other CPU, or should they both match?

Gotta get back to work!

I can give you a good deal on a Tt Volcano 7+...

You pay shipping :)

^^ She needs some counseling.

Anyway, that's cool, BBA - Do you have the exact model of that HSF? Maybe a link to it.. ?

I'm taking Cwizard's advice and going with exact matching HSFs (makes sense to me!) and I want to be able to order a match.

Thanks! :D

Is that with the cpus? What cpus did you get?

BTW, any brand names sell dual AMDs?

Mntsnow

Nope Fosin...Thats just for the board....I sent her a pair of AMD MP 1.2gig'rs to tie her over as they were just sitting on my desk not being used as I had gotten them with a Tyan system a couple of months ago and ended up upgrading the CPU's to 1800's

BBA

It wasn't me.

Well whichever of YOU it was....I hope she got the counseling in time. :D

Hi Fosin! :)

BBA~ You got ICQ ! Where are you?

I sent her a pair of AMD MP 1.2gig'rs to tie her over as they were just sitting on my desk not being used

The MPs arrived today and are sitting here on my desk in their little see-through plastic cases saying: "Run Me! Run Me!" lol :D

but alas we have to wait..

BBA - pls reply to icq asap :)

Mike.. you're the best ;) Thanks again.

Well.. my Mushkin has been shipped.. my board is being processed. I order the matching Volcano 7+ at Coolerguys (http://www.coolerguys.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=001&Product_Code=840556018032&Category_Code=CPC-AMD) (thanks to Cwizard for the original thought for that vendor) as they had the best price I could find = $32.xx shipped; and, BBA's is on the way..

Anticipation...... !!

Wish this would have come up sooner...I sold two 256M registered ECC PC2100 Crucial sticks for $60 total. Each stick cost more than that alone at the cheapest place you can find it.

LOL Well I was planning on building another dually and just havent had time nor the extra funds to do so (back to school costs for the kids, Property taxes, Quarterly business taxes ect) so I offered them to Socal to help out as she is a dear friend and I know she would do the same for me if the chance presented itself :)

Well at one of the last chats I gave away a AMD K6-2 chip and some case badges to members that showed up...Down the road I bet their might be other "benefits" given away to the membership :)

Yeah, Mike is one person who is very generous. He makes very reasonable deals on the things he sells and if you're lucky, he won't charge you a dime! ;)

Oh, and thanks again for the free ATA PCI card, Mike! :)

Well...it was from a year ago, when I thought I would build an MP dualee...but never did. The memory cost me only $35.00 a stick from Crucial...now the same stick is almost $100. It was a shame it would not work in my P4 rig...but I didn't loose anything much on the deal.

Mntsnow

Ahh back when memory was a good price ;)

Yep, my stick of Basic PC2100 DDR was $122 at Mushkin. A big leap from not too long ago!

And Mike and BBA - you're both great. I wouldn't be building this system without your gracious help :D Thank you both!
