This controller was listed at some sites I checked for $150~

A check at Adaptec's site yielded no information about a card with suffix numbers like this one ?

I cannot be sure it has an on-board BIOS to allow it to be a boot drive, if it does then this is a pretty good deal.

I contacted customer support and I received a reply saying it did have an onboard bios and that I would be able to use it as a boot disk.

Is this just for a mac?, the software recomended to format is only in a mac version. Would I be able to use this on Pc? any idea mntsnow?

Thanks Biff

No this should not be Mac only. But you do have to use a 3rd party software to format FOR a Mac.

The 2940 adaptec card is used both in PC as well as Mac's

Just did some more digging and it looks like Adaptec made TWO versions of the 2940U2B (one has the Apple "ROM") So you would most likely have to flash the Bios to the PC Version to have it work correct....Thus I would pass on this one if your not sure about flashing

Thanks for the reply mntsnow. I've flashed my mb's several times and that gives me the creeps LOL. I'll pass on this combo, it did seem like a good price though.
Thanks again - Biff

I also contacted customer service with a similar reply.

My Mail;
"Question: This SCSI card is not listed at Adaptec's site.
Does it have an on-board BIOS so it can be a "bootable" drive supporting card?

Thanks for the reply Richard. I'll pass on this one, but perhaps you could post any other SCSI bundles you may come across.

Many thanks - Biff
