My Western Digital 13.6 gig Hdd is dead. I got this `ol girl when they first came out. My first BIG Hdd. Alot of people said they had problems with the 13.6's. not me, I've dropped it, and abused it and it kept on working though it all. She was a dam good drive.

I came in and boot up and heard this ungodly growling/screaching noise, I thought I was losing another HSF again. I open the case and it was the Hdd. I quickly backed up "C" to the server and and started copying my mics. stuff off of "D" (had 2 partions) when she froze up. I did lose alot of stuff, but nothing I can't replace. mostly UT and Q-III settings/game maps etc.
I wonder what made all the noise inside? I havn't opened it yet to see

Heheh the good thing is she had a younger sister, it had`drake 8.2 on it, lol not anymore.

I also have a 7200rpm WD 13.6GB drive which I bought on its first release. I bought it in Korea while where they were practically giving these drives for almost nothing since WD was not known in Korea and wanted people to try these drives out... Mine is still running strong! :)

Sorry, I forgot to mention this was an 5400 rpm Hdd ATA-66. I usally tear them apart or shoot them down celler or both. I just put her back in her static bag. back in her orginal box and put her in the bin.

Sorry to hear about your loss SpaceCat. I lost a WD 60gig the other week. I still have to scrounge up the reciepts so I can get a replacement. Mine just clicks really hard and loud and wont show itself to the bios at all. Tried everything I could to get the data off of it but I believe its gone for good.

Well at least you got your stuff back, and people may think that that isn't important but it surely is, my brother even has 4 hd's and 2 of them are for backup what his computer does every night.
Anyway i have a old 8 gig for backup the it has savegames my favorites drivers mp3 (man lots of work to get all my music back lol) and all that stuff.

I'm waiting for my two 13.5 IBM's to die on me. They've been running constantly for almost four years now on my dualee that never gets turned off. They started life raid 0 on a promise FastTrak 66 in my P2-333 OC'd to 500, if that is any indication of how old they are. I've only formatted them once due to a virus.

I have a couple of scsi drives in waiting, just for the occasion.
