It's not that I'm having no troubles understanding, configuring or using Adv.Server...

I can't get the darn thing successfully installed and / or when I do, I get STOP errors, or I end up unable to get past "verifying DMI pool data" :)

NTFS "successfully installs" but after W2K splash screen and before login, I get various STOP blue screens, with registry/hive or other system file not found or corrupt.

Tried 5x to install.

FAT32 installation actually completed to boot and I even got the MS updates, incl. SP3, V7702U driver. Then the DMI Pool problem.

Tried 2x to install.

Am reinstalling as FAT32 and gonna try just the SP2 if I can get a a successful install.

Checked HDD, changed power lead and ribbon, correctly jumpered. Latest mobo BIOS. FDISK /MBR and later, FIXBOOT. Loaded CMOS/ BIOS defaults.

Other things?
PC133 casL 2 Mushkin RAM is 256mb .. the minimum for AS.
W2K Pro installs fine.

P3 450
BX6-2 with latest QR
V7702U with latest reference drivers
256mb Mushkin PC133 casL 2 set to cas3 in BIOS
IBM 20G hdd (DFT tested and OK'd)
Creative CDRW 6/4/24

??

Anyway.. I thought I'd use this thread as a log, if that's alright :) maybe someone will have ideas, too

FAT32 AS install was successful.
Configuring server... which I can't properly do as FAT32. (sysvol needs ntfs)

cmd on reboot: c: /fs:ntfs / v

C: successfully converts to ntfs and launches/login to desktop.

(why I can do an FAT32 installation but not NTFS..)

install nvidia reference drivers... success

I can't get online.

I got online before ;)

TCP/IP is set to node IP with DNS (of ISP) - I'm behind a Linksys router.

It originally auto-config'd node IP with a 10.10.1.1. IP but changed it. DCHP in Services & Apps shows a 10.0.x range

Doh. I'm such a newbie at this server :(

Is the problem with Active Directory not finishing the setup cos of the fat32 / ntfs issue above?

Well, since I didn't know what was installed/not installed before the abort of the server config, I decided to reinstall (again).

I just overwrote the NTFS system partition this time and it installed fine.. I got throught the Server configuration, as well.

Installed the nVidia drivers.

And I can get online.

w00t! :D

Now the real fun begins, eh? I think talking to myself in here helped, too. :)

hehe Glad you got it going :) I think there was something on your HD that was causing the problems earlier but the subsquent fat32 and ntfs format/conversions straightened that out

Socal - I have had the same problems too on my Server installs. I usually get thru about 85% and hen start geting BSOD - after about 3 installs and 10 BSOD it boots fine and runs fine. I cannot explain it but I have it down pretty well now.

oh.. now you pop in ;) lol jk Actually, posting to myself was quite therapeutic <g> and a good way to keep a record.

I've not even turned Server on tonite.. I get home, answer icq's, emails, pm's, check forums and *poof* my night's about over. Besides, it being a Monday nite, I'm pretty tired, so .. manana ;)

I still can't say for sure what happened; you might be right Mike, and I wish I knew for sure. Edwelly, I've heard another person having Server install problems too. .. still is strange to me.

How's everything, edwelly?

I'm sure you guys will be seeing me alot more in here

Hasta la vista for now ;)
