okay my friend who was having the problem with the pacbell dsl, just got a belkin router(free) ..

so i went over and hooked it up, everything was pretty easy and straight forward.

then he goes to play counterstrike( video game), i decided okay lets see if this works, i go to www.yahoo.com

and then immediately his ping goes to hell to like 1300 +

is there a setting on the router so it shares the bandwidth equally? i know it's possible to equally share it because there are many people out there who do it and in a sense thats a reason people buy routers.

someone said i might try mac cloning??

this is my first mini adventure into networking.

oh the network setup:
1 - Compaq AMD 2100 XP
XP HOME
1- Intel 550
XP Pro

The Mac cloning wont do anything for you in terms of getting "equal" bandwidth. I dont know the belkin router so I will have to do some reading on it to give a answer on if it is capable of "managing" bandwidth or not

Nope...I had searched and couldnt find support for management on the belkin.

yeah,it's a really really fikle modem, sometimes it like to work, sometimes it doesnt, though the past week with the unrelased firmware update they gave me seemed to do the job.

But do you have a copy of the "unreleased" firmware update? Or a link to it? I am having the same problem (Wirless Belkin Router with 4 port switch).
