For some reason, my speaker setup is acting strangely. All of the sound is coming through the left speaker. I just noticed it today. I have a Klipche speaker setup with two speakers connecting to the sub and a Sound Blaster Audigy sound card. There are 4 wires coming out of the sub, which are all glued together. (two wires for each speaker) The wires break apart about 3 feet later to reach to the speakers. I'm currently running Mepis Linux, although when I booted into Windows XP, I got the same result....the sound came from the left speaker. When I do a speaker test, I hear a very loud "FRONT LEFT" and then a very faint "front right." When I play music, the music can only be heard from the left speaker unless you put your ear up to the right speaker and then it can barely be heard. Fading the sound all the way to the left makes the music very loud in the left speaker, fading it all the way to the right mutes the sound completely. Here's what I've troubleshot so far:

1. checked connections from speaker wires to speakers - looks good
2. checked connections from speakers to sub - looks good
3. checked cables from master speaker to audio jacks in sound card - looks good
4. disconnected and reconnected speaker wires - no change
5. disconnected and reconnected audio cables attaching to sound card - no change
6. removed sound card, cleaned with compressed air as well as PCI slot - no change
7. restarted in both OSes - no change

Keep in mind that my speaker wires going into the sub are partially frayed, thanks to one of the dogs, but they have been that way for quite some time and seemed to work fine. The only two wires that are pretty messed are the ones going to the left speaker, which seems to operate fine. My first thought was that it must be the sound card going bad, so I removed the sound card and enabled on-board audio. I got the same result in both Windows and Linux....the sound only comes from the left speaker. This leads me to believe that either my $300 speaker setup is going bad (it's actually a 4.1 system with 2 speakers not connected) or the speaker wires are going bad. What do you guys think?

Never mind. I solved it myself.

I was going to say, do you need a amplified hearing aide :ROF:
