ok, here goes.... we can take it as a given that i know zilch about computers. no courses,no tutorials, i learned what i know on my own, so this may sound like a question dumber than usual.
i have a western digital external hard drive, 80 gig. i filled it up to 67 or so gig and i can no longer access it. if i go to windows explorer, my computer, administrative tools -- computer management, sytem tools -- disk clean up, system tools -- disk defragmentizer, system tools -- system information, device manager -- driver, and just about every where else, i cannot access it. if i open windows explorer or any of the above and just don't click on the e: drive, the external drive letter, i can access everything else and every- thing works normally.
when i boot up and the drive is connected i get the message that my computer is going to check that drive, then i get a message that four .tmp files in that drive are going to be trucated and something about being crosslinked to an allocation unit.
i have googled this problem and most of the language is very high tek but i get the feeling that hard drives have a built in quota and that exceeding it will ''mess stuff up", and that .tmp files have something to do with that.
but, hey, i have about six or seven gig left, could that be the problem?
p.s. this is my first post, i didn't know whether to post it on the previous external hard drive thread or not, deciding that one problem to a thread is enuff.
thanks in advance for any suggestions.
