Links text based browser, if this works ill be damned.
I cant edit in opera either, btw.
I didnt change anything in your post but I just did this in Opera. -Mntsnow-
Im getting "Gateway Failed" Errors (not an error page, a popup warning type thing) when i try to post.
Also, lynx occasionaly says "refresh url is not absolute" when it goes to the redirect "thank you for posting" pages, but i dont think its reltaed.
I am still having the same problem with opera as flea is..I'll be damned if I know why..
I have the latest opera upgrade too.. If I figure it out you will be the first to know however:)

The buttons dont move at TechIMO cause Scott must have coded it to have all the buttons on the left side.

I am posting this message in Opera 5.0.2 which is the same version I use to test Opera Compatibility at SitePointForums.com..
Here are my observances with the Opera Engine:
1) It has no support for align attributes within TABLE, TR or TD tags which are part of the HTML 4.1 recommendation. In fact all block level elements (P, DIV, BLOCKQUOTE, etc...) are supposed to support these tags. The CENTER tag has been deprecated and should no longer be used.
2) It doesn't support Javascript of a higher version than 1.1. Over the last 5 years, Netscape has released 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5 versions of Javascript.
3) It allows people to change the User Agent String and therefore may not be able to interpret code intended for another browser like Internet Explorer. Most users masquerade as Internet Explorer. Make sure your User Agent is marked as Opera and developers can get real numbers and you can get real support.
4) It doesn't have support for frames or iframes turned on by default. Also if this support is not turned on, instead of ignoring the tags and the information enclosed in them, it just puts the information at the end of the document. Usually resulting in a big mess.
5) Versions 5.10 and 5.11 cannot handle multi/enc type forms properly (the form types vbulletin uses). This is an acknowledged bug in the Opera engine.
6) Opera has the same problem all versions of Netscape has (even 6 and Mozilla) in that you cannot mix pixel and percentage widths within table elements. I can't find anything on whether this is actually allowed in the HTML recommendations but it is accepted practice.
I would like to point out that I am all for complying with the recommendations and IE 6.0 does the best job of any browser available in doing this, however there comes a time when standards are over run with accepted practice and the accepted practice should become the standard not the other way around. If the Opera developers realized this and coded their browser accordingly they would have a lot of happy customers and be able to provide better support.
For the most part, there are no problems with vBulletin and Opera. There are some formatting issues but these are really trivial and minor and to be expected when a site has to be readable in at least 5 different browsers (Netscape 4.XX, Internet Explorer 4+. Netscape 6/Mozilla, Opera 5+, and all legacy browsers)

Ahwell, netscape it is then. Thanks for the info :)
So it is a OPERA bug...not a Forum bug
I hate to disagree but it is a manufactured bug by VBulletin.
It is stated clearly in his #6 statement
Opera has the same problem all versions of Netscape has (even 6 and Mozilla) in that you cannot mix pixel and percentage widths within table elements. I can't find anything on whether this is actually allowed in the HTML recommendations but it is accepted practice.
Accepted by whom you might ask..The answer is by IE but no one else it would seem. I guess the standards are M$ standards.
He then goes on to say...
I would like to point out that I am all for complying with the recommendations and IE 6.0 does the best job of any browser available in doing this, however there comes a time when standards are over run with accepted practice and the accepted practice should become the standard not the other way around.
Gee is that an add for IE or not????
M$ upgrades its browser to read certain "new" tags. Then encourages developers to use those tags therby locking out other browsers on the market from using the net effectively unless they upgrade to keep up with M$ tagging. Which is very difficult considering the money involved to do it..
Thats what I mean by a manufactured bug. They could have simply not mixed the code, it would do the same thing and all could see it.
The browser war is a very subtle thing and it is based on browser specific taging..M$ understands this very very very well. You will note there are lots of boards out there that work with all browsers when it comes to posting messages. If M$ can get them to change their code during an upgrade that only IE recognizes...well you can figure it out ;)
However that said what I dont understand is I dont have this problem at TechIMO..I assume it is the same board version..Which means there must be some way around this problem:)

So What EXACT problem are you having RK? I have NO problem here using version 5.12 of Opera...Heck...I'm posting from it right now!

I guess the standards are M$ standards
Regardless of whos they are, everyone is affected by them.
Also, opera is not free, who will pay a lot of money for the current and then have to pay for upgrades when it just doesn't work.
sure it's a browser war, but if opera is to show place or win, they have to get on board with the race, ms haters will just use netscape ,, or just get over it.

Just talked to Scott and he mentioned that there is one "bug fix" that he did change to help support Opera browsers....I will be implementing it in a few moments
Just made the changes.....Will you two now try it in Opera and then post back here the results.
If you do have an error Please post the EXACT error message or take a screen shot of what the error is please.
bug with Opera 5.11 and Netscape 6.1
since Netscape version6.1, the fixed 170 pixel width of the left column in the Posting-table (the one with name,....) is ignored.
To repair that you just have to remove the 100% width of the right column (text, icons). If you have done that, the fixed width of the left column is displayed properly in IE5.5, NN6.1 and Opera 5.11
well the "fix" for the "table issues" is to edit the "Postbit" template and use this instead. (I've posted the complete section so other VB users with the problem can just Cut & Paste it in instead of having to find the single code "error")

Ok...so your having a CGI error......NOT a "make it look pretty" error.
Off to VB's tech help again
Ok I will do the best I can to describe it:)
First off everything on the forum works fine and looks fine to me in opera..I can view and surf with ease.
The problem occurs when I try to post a message. The posting form comes up fine, everything is there but when i hit either the submit or preview button....................nothing.........in the action bar at the bottom of the browser up comes the message "sending request to forums.xtremepccentral.com..." then the message dissappears after about 2 seconds and it never connects.
The only difference in appearance from opera to IE in the posting form is that the color of the message field and the color in the post subject field is grey in IE and white in opera..
I don't want to make a big thing out of this its not a problem to fire up IE when I want to post here:) Its just that it is more of a mystery and I love mysteries:D

Thanks RK....I have listed this thread in my post over at the VB's support forums. Hopefully we can get this figured out as I like mysteries too....Up to a point :D
I was just looking at flea's post and was thinking maybe opera isnt reading the buttons correctly and is sending to forums.xtremepccentral.com instead of http://forums.xtremepccentral.com
could it be that the http is cut off from the table that opera reads somehow??? just thinking out loud

That could very probable......I hope that one of the VB Mods or "super Users" visit my thread in the forums soon...Just so we can know an answer ;)
Sorry still get the same error, but i did get a funky new one when i went to post this(in netscape this time)......
Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in E:\Xtremeforums\admin\functions.php on line 2065

Well I turned off the "http headers" that one of the guys suggested that I turn on for testing purposes but that caused more problems so thats back to off now.
Try your Netscape again AFTER clearning your cookies and emptying your cache. Do you get the same error?
