Thanks Fosin. I'm in need of a battery backup and have been shopping around.
Does anyone have any info on what to look for in one? From what I've found I would think one with software that saves and shutsdown the computer would be best.
I found a Belkin that does that for $40 shipped.

What do you think?

That's cheap, might get one of those for my dad.

I usually prefer APCs, but the Belkin looks like it has more outlets (and easier to get to) and I think their warranty is usually 3 years instead of 2. That CS350 shutsdown also. Mine has already come in, real nice.

Well I ordered it.
The power in my new house seems very bad. I'm always getting surges and slight power loss and I know that isn't good for the computers.

I got this in my inbox today from TweakersAustralia (http://www.tweakers.com.au), they wrote a review over the APC Back-UPS ES 350 HERE. (http://www.tweakers.com.au/articles/cases_psu/apc_es350/page1.asp)

"Earlier this year, American Power Conversion (APC) launched their Back-UPS ES range of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), designed specifically for the home and small office. The idea behind the ES series is to provide affordable backup and surge protection, and offer a standard set of features found on more expensive units, typically designed for larger office environments. Some of these features include file saving, auto-shutdown software as well as telephone/fax/modem and digital subscriber line (DSL) protection to stop power surges from damaging connected equipment. A study by IBM has shown that a typical computer is subject to more than 120 power problems per month. The effects of power problem range from the subtle keyboard lockups, hardware degradation to the dramatic complete data loss or burnt motherboards. According to Contingency Planning Research, more than 45.3% of data loss problems are caused by power failure or power surges."

Overall it's a decent review and might help those that are interested in buying one. :)

That looks pretty neat Jadison but my plugs don't fit that thing. LOL

Well, it's an Australian hardware review site so naturally they'd be reviewing an Australian sample. Sorry I didn't provide a link to the US Compatible hardware version: Click Here for US version (http://www.apcc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=BE350U&language=en&LOCAL.APCCountryCode=US)

Well I got it and hooked it up. Works great. The software was easy to install and run. And I even unplugged it from the wall once and watched as it saved and shutdown my apps and then shutdown windows.
Glad I got it.

Remember to send in your rebate if you got the one from Office Depot. BTW, it is a really nice UPS. Better than I was expecting for $40.
