If your into gaming, which I'm assuming becuase of teh vid card, RAM & other stuff, upgrade the mouse to a MX510 or MX1000, I got the 500 as well, thought it was teh 510 when I got it & didn't realize there was a difference, though the 500 gets me by fine, I still wish I had gotten at least the 510, but hopefully in coming months I'll be getting the 1000.
Other than that, can't see a thing wrong with thet setup!!!:)
AND Welcome to XPC!!!:)

Thanks. My MX500 cost $50 so I doubt I'll be upgrading that anytime soon. :)
Shyguy
02-03-2005, 11:16 AM
yeah same here, got mine for $50 as well at Office max, but then the next week Best Buy had the 510 on sale for the same price, thats when I realized the two were different, I just thought the 510 was just a slightly newer version of the 500 (new name, color, etc), guess not, LOL!!! Oh well it works fine for now, but would like to get a little more precision for in games.

02-03-2005, 11:18 AM
What exactly is the difference other than color? Does it have a higher DPI or what else is there, just overall better?
Shyguy
02-03-2005, 11:22 AM
basically yeah, higher DPI, & just more accurate, both are wired mice, but has same buttons & stuff, just a higher precision sensor is about it.
InsaneRage92
02-03-2005, 11:24 AM
Yeah I figured the DPI was higher. I would've gotten the MX510 but it was an extra $3 which I didn't have.
Shyguy
02-03-2005, 11:26 AM
Oh well, the 500 is good enough for now anyways.

I am not wild on the new video cards. But you have a great config. I have never tried a 64 bit processor yet and I dunno if I will.

Thanks for the warm welcome. :)
Well I would've built a better computer but I was on a budget of $1000, which I went over by like $76. I bought everything locally because I didn't want to put up with any possible hassle or anything, plus I got all my stuff wholesale. So what does anyone else think?

What? Please elaborate.
Nice config! oh... and welcome to XPC!!
Antec makes very good PSU. My server runs on a True Power 550 EPS12V 24pins.
I like Enermax as well... hard to choose between the 2!

Welcome to XPC IR :D
Not a bad spec although I think until 64bit OS's and applications are mainstream, it's a lot of power wasted...
Put a desent VC in their though, and that'll rock :D
So what hobbies do you have etc, and have you checked out our Distributed Computing section here. (http://www.xtremepccentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=46) We could sure use some firepower like that :bunny:
You get to have a laugh with a great team through banter etc, and help find cures for Cancer HIV and other nasties, what more could you ask for...

Haven't checked out Distributed Computing, but I will. By the way, what exactly do I do in Distributed Computing?

Pretty much PC related then, Join the club :D
The DC project XPC supports mainly is Find-a-Drug which is non for profit.
Basically, you download the client and run it, it will download jobs to run which it will merrily crunch through by using only unused CPU cycles. The beauty of this is that it does not effect normal computer usage, as soon as you run anything, FaD steps aside and allows the program to use the cpu.
You can find out more about it, and how to join by looking here. (http://www.xtremepccentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12165)
It really is very simple to get running, and you won't even know it's there. If you deside to run it and have a problem, just ask in our DC forum, someone will answer pretty darn quick :D
Also, this is a great place here at XPC, have a look around, there are some great people here and it is a very friendly place.
Enjoy your stay :)

That sounds questionable. But I don't know, I might check it out.
Shyguy
02-03-2005, 6:22 PM
nothing questionable about it, Ive been running FaD for ove a year now, & did F@H (Folding @ Home) prior to that for another site, & a few years ago, did I think it was The neo project or something like that, that we tried here, that one didn't turn out so well. But FaD is defiantely the best of all teh ones Ive done.
But he's right, I can play all my games or multitask with out having any hit in performance when running FaD. I leave my rig/rigs running 24/7 & turn in about 2-4 thousand points a day on average, with just one rig.
But we don't want to pressure anyone into it, so its up to you, if you want to know more I think W2K has the link above.
But again Welcome to XPC!!!:)

What's the purpose of collecting these points?
Shyguy
02-04-2005, 4:09 AM
adds competition to the whole thing. the important part is how many jobs/molecules you get processed.
Win2Kuser
02-04-2005, 4:32 AM
You can see how competitive we get with it by looking at one of the stats threads, then there is the automated web stats that update every 6 hours, plus the full version stats that I post here etc etc etc.
With a system like that, you could be moving up the ranks very quickly :D
As shyguy says though, it's how many jobs, hits and molecules you get processed that really counts, each hit is a good or bad reaction to each molecule subset and is what the researchers use to analyse the results. On a system like yours, each job of around 10,000 molecules should complete within a couple of hours.
So far, the Find-a-Drug project has completed over 5,000 years of computer processing time, this team has completed over 600 years alone, this is just in a few years. You can see how much time these projects save the AntiCancer researchers etc.
Anyways, what sort of games are you into, there are a couple of members here that are trying to get an XPC team together for online gaming fun, more info I believe is in the gaming forum somewhere...

How'd you get that pic to display at that res on the forums, I always have to downsize mine to the 600x480 that it says you have to have?
Win2Kuser

Probably beacuse he used the [ img] off site url [ /img] command rather than attaching a pic from your computer...
Just a guess :)

Okay I'm running the FaD thing, is it supposed to be showing a little mocecule strand thing and saying 'THINK' at the top?
Shyguy
02-23-2005, 11:51 AM
Yep, but I usually set the graphic thing to "hidden" so I don't have to watch that thing all the time & let it run in background Litterally.
