ok, i have adelphia cable. I am trying to get assigned a new ip. I tried releasing/renewing, ive tried leaving my modem unplugged for 8 hrs. but everytime i renew my ip i get the same one back. its my understanding that when it goes to renew my ip it will automatically look for my old ip first. Is there anyway to get a new ip? thanks

If I'm wrong...someone correct me, but the only way that you'd get a new IP is that if someone elses IP expired in that window where yours is available (ie, your machine is off) and when they renewe'd they got your old IP address...hence when you would try to renew...it would try the IP it had before and find out that it is taken and then assign you a new IP
Least I think that's how it works...lol :D

Depends on how your ISP issues the IP's. They control it. Some are dynamic (change every time), some are semi-static (change when the ISP feels like it :o ), some are static (never change unless you ask). I'd say if it won't change, and you want it to, ask. ;)
Why do you need to change your WAN IP, anyhow??

LOL, I was thinking same thing! :D
could be a gaming thing too, if he was banned from a certain server?
but could be someone else has his IP & he wants a new one?
