View Full Version : Asus P4T or Giga-byte GA-8iTX3?
I can only find a $10 difference in price -
$210
Probably will host a 1.6gHz processor - $184
most likely in a a-top case at900 with a 350watt ps - about $100
I'll pick up a used 17" HP monitor for $75 in 2 weeks
I've got all the other goodies to go in it already -
I'd probably settle for a 1.4gHz processor if I could find a 512, but have only seen 256 models out there - that extra cache can make so much of a difference - drop me a URL if you know of someone who has this.
thoughts anyone?

i dunno, i would pick the one with the best reviews..... i dont know all that much about motherboards
Just bought the case and PS - it's "in the mail"
Well - there are two notible technical differences in favor of the giga-byte board - it has a gui interface for overclocking and it has a dual-bios set-up - I've seen this in action on my current main system at home and it does make a difference......
I'd say that definitely makes the GA-8iTX3 the potentially better board. It's worth the extra $10 in price.
Now I just need to get my favorite vendor to carry it....
I'll probably be going with a P4 - 1.5gHz processor on it.
Here's an update - as of 10/29/2001 - around noon - I have not gotten back an answer from any of the resellers I've written, or Giga-byte itself on when the ga-8itx3 motherboard will be placed available for sale to the public.......
I have seen one review of the board and want it for my next system build, but can't get an answer on when it's actually going to hit store shelves -
I want to get it on-line from my favorite vendor,
Any ideas?
Could I get a few more members from this board to write giga-byte at their website and ask when this will be available.
I'd appreciate it -
www.giga-byte.com
P.S. I already dropped them a note indicating that 2/3rds of their USA reseller links either had no giga-byte products or were dead links...... it doesn't look good - but I understand it - Giga-byte boards are not the cheapest thing running, so there isn't much volume selling of these boards going on -
At least I hope that's it -
I'm really happy with the ga-bx2000+ I bought a while back.

If you go for the Asus mobo, watch out for the Video card Voltage if my memory serves me correct Asus require the video to be 1.5volt if the card does not support this voltage it will fry the mobo. ( check it out to be on the safe side, as the mobo normally has the voltage marked on the mobo for th AGP card)

This is a cut and paste from one of my wholesalers.
""Warranty will void, be warned,""
To our valued customers, BE WARNED!! All P4 motherboards on the market (478 pin with intel 845,850), including ASUS P4B, P4BM, P4T, P4T-CM, P4T-E, P4T-M, etc. and Epox 4B2A, 4B2M, etc., CAN ONLY SUPPORT 1.5V AGP 4X MODE GRAPHIC CARDS. Fail to do so will burn out Intel 845 & 850 chipsets (see photograph attached --photographed by ASUS). Such consequence also results the manufacture's warranty void (i.e. the warranty that ASUS gives us will get void). Therefore, please check your graphic card vendors if you are not sure whether your card support such mode BEFORE plug it on any of the motherboards stated above. RA Dept. of Morning Star Computer.

the GA-8iTX3 is now available on the market from www.axiontech.com for $143 plus shipping. I'm keeping my eyes out for other sources in the hopes of finding some sort of combo deal - but haven't seen it yet.....
