View Full Version : Electrical Question
I have some pc speakers/woofer set I'm going to be taking back to the states. The problem is that they are 220V. not 110V. I'm planning on using a 220 to 110 converter, but not too sure if this converter can handle it... The convertor says that it can handle 75VA max... and here are the specs for the speakers:
Satellite power: 6 watts RMS per satellite (5 satellites)
Subwoofer power: 18 watts RMS
so is this how i would do the math?
6Watts X 5 = 30W + 18Watts for the subwoofer = 48Watts?
and with the convertor max capacity being 75W, it will be fine?
I'm planning on using a 220 to 110 converter
I hope you really mean 110v to 220v converter :p , and 75VA should do the job nicely. :cool:

I think the wattage of the speakers does not matter. What you need to know is what the amplifier draws.
I can’t ever remember Ohm’s law and I’m an electrician!
R = V/I
I = V/R
V = I x R
P = V x I
R - Resistance
I - Current
V - Voltage
P - Power (Watts)
HTH. :cool:

lol I don't ever remember it though. I just look in my "ugly book" when I need it.

I am sure that your 75W converter will handle the load OK.
The effeciency of the amplifier is probably about 25-50%.
Thanks for you replies.
I hope it will work. I just don't want don't want to end up not being able to use these speakers. I guess I will know soon enough as soon as I get my computer back. Let me tell you, it sucks having your belongings shipped overseas. The trip takes 10 days from Seoul, Korea to California, but the customs takes as long as 15 days! :(
